What channel is Ole Miss vs. Liberty on today? Time, TV schedule to watch Malik Willis vs. SEC opponent

By | November 5, 2021

At first glance, Saturday’s nonconference matchup between No. 16 Ole Miss and independent Liberty might not seem like must-watch TV. Luckily, Sporting News is here to set the record straight.

The Rebels and Flames’ meeting provides several captivating storylines, not least of which is the quarterback battle between Ole Miss’ Matt Corral and Liberty’s Malik Willis. The Rebels gunslinger remains one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy in 2021, throwing 2,202 yards and 15 touchdowns to two interceptions while adding 538 rushing yards and 10 more scores.

Willis, meanwhile, has 1,986 passing yards and 21 touchdowns to six interceptions. Like Corral, Willis is also a gifted runner, rushing for 697 yards and nine touchdowns.

This will also be Liberty coach Hugh Freeze’s first return to Oxford since his resignation prior to the 2017 season. Freeze — who had beaten Alabama Nick Saban in both 2014 and ’15 — left the program after it was discovered he made calls to an escort service on a university-issued phone. He has since enjoyed a resurgence at Liberty, leading the Flames to records of 8-5, 10-1 and 7-2 in 2019, ’20 and ’21, respectively.

It’s also worth watching how Ole Miss responds to an emotionally draining loss to Auburn, a game in which coach Lane Kiffin’s aggressive play calls three times resulted in turnovers on downs in the Auburn red zone. The Rebels are almost certainly out of contention for the SEC West championship, but how they get up for this game will go a long way in how this team finishes the season.
