The Patriots’ defense posted the 13th shutout of coach Bill Belichick’s New England tenure, intercepting Matt Ryan and both of his backups in a 25-0 victory over the Falcons on Thursday night in Atlanta.
Ryan was benched for the final two minutes of the game, with backup Josh Rosen taking over. Rosen threw a pick-six to linebacker Kyle Van Noy to seal the Falcons’ fate even tighter. Feleipe Franks took over for Rosen on the next Falcons possession and threw an interception of his own.
Van Noy dominated the Falcons with two sacks to go with the pick-six. New England’s defense held Atlanta’s offense to 165 total yards and 3.2 yards per play.
The Pats are now tied with the Ravens for most shutouts since 2000.
On the other side of the ball, Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones went 22 for 26 for 207 yards and a touchdown. He was also intercepted once and sacked three times. Rhamondre Stevenson led New England with 69 yards rushing on 12 carries. Nelson Agholor had a team-high five catches, including the TD pass from Jones.
The Patriots (7-4), who are battling the Bills for the top spot in the AFC East, will return to Gillette Stadium on Nov. 29 for a matchup against the Titans. The Falcons (4-6), who are sitting at the bottom of the NFC South, will face the Jaguars in Jacksonville that same day.
