Debut Project from Lymari Media Shares Untold, Historical Story of  One of the Greatest Rulers of the Ancient World 

The fiercest protector of Nubia is finally making her long-awaited debut in the media. Queen Amani Renas –Protector of Nubia Vol. 1, the debut project from Lymari Media, the three-issue comic series focusing on the Queen that ruled the ancient Nubian Empire from 40 BCE – 10 BCE and prospered the Nubian empire for generations. The first issue is now available for digital download, with a print edition following shortly after.

As with all Lymari Media projects, Queen Amani Renas – Protector of Nubia is rooted in history and developed in collaboration with dedicated researchers and cultural institutions to ensure accuracy not only in the story, but also in the depiction of the characters, the culture and artifacts present in Ancient Nubia. The first issue of the comic has been pressure tested and verified through an estimated 500 hours of research and this accuracy is what sets a Lymari Media project apart from other offerings in the industry today.

“Amani Renas is the definition of a historical woman that is worth celebrating, and her story has yet to be shared widely in Western culture,” said Christian Jones, co-founder Lymari Media, “We are incredibly proud to share her true story through the dynamic medium of comic books in an authentic way that does her story justice.”

Queen Amani Renas – Protector of Nubia is truly a collaborative effort. Based on a story initially created by Christian Jones and Liz Jones, the project was written and creatively directed by Chris Walker, publisher and creative director. The story was developed by David Atchison, Dr. Shamika Mitchell and Chris Walker, and written by Regine Sawyer and Chris Walker.

Queen Amani Renas is the first project for Lymari Media, a multimedia company focused on creating entertaining and accessible African history content for both kids and adults. As conversations advance surrounding representation in media – nearly six in ten parents say it’s important to them for their children to see themselves reflected in media – however, nearly 75% of Black parents hold this sentiment*.

The Lymari team believes that understanding the past is key to transformation and affirmation of self and that the media has an incredible power to foster these traits. In fact, two in three parents feel that media has a big impact on their children’s professional aspirations, while 57 percent of parents say the media their child consumes has prompted conversations about diversity*. Lymari projects fill the widening need for media that creates a positive narrative for Black children that serves as a bridge to African roots.

As part of the Queen Amani Renas – Protector of Nubia launch, Lymari Media is fostering additional discussions on social media by showcasing various museum collections that explore the history of, using actual collection numbers and tagging the system that universities and museums use to track artifacts. .
