By | April 14, 2022

The inaugural season of the rebooted USFL is just around the corner, with the Generals and Stallions set to kick off on April 16.

With the start of the new league comes the question fans watching the games will be wondering: How much will the players be paid?

The pay structure is simple and even across the board. All the players receive the same amount of money as a base salary, with the only changes coming based on whether teams win and whether players are on the roster for the games.

Just how will the pay system in the new football league work? The Sporting News breaks it down.

USFL salary structure

  • Average salary: $45,000
  • Weekly paycheck: $4,500

According to USFL News, players will earn $4,500 per week that they are on the active roster. They would earn $1,500 per week that they are on the practice squad and $600 per week that they are at training camp.

That would mean that over the course of a full season, which lasts 10 weeks, players who are on the active roster can expect to make at least $45,000. Players  on the practice squad for an entire campaign would make $15,000.

USFL bonuses

  • Victory bonus: $850
  • Championship bonus: $10,000

There will be more money to be had for players on winning teams, especially those who appear in each of the games.

USFL News reported that players on the active roster or practice squad of a team will receive an additional bonus of $850 per win. Per the bonus policy, players who are injured, suspended or otherwise inactive when the game begins will not be able to earn that incentive.

There is also a major reward for winning the USFL Championship. Players on the active roster or practice squad would earn a $10,000 paycheck for winning the title in the USFL. As with the victory bonuses, anyone injured, suspended or inactive will not be eligible for the bonus, unless the USFL decides otherwise.

That means an active player on an undefeated, title-winning team could make up to $75,750 since they would be credited with 11 victory bonuses, 12 weeks of being on an active roster, four weeks of training camp and the championship bonus.
