William Byron was about a lap away from capturing his third win of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season Sunday.
Byron had led for 24 laps in the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway and was holding off a surging Joey Logano, who was gaining on the leader.
With just over a lap remaining, Logano’s car bumped the rear of Byron’s No. 24 car, sending it into the wall and taking out the right side. Logano went on to capture his first win since winning on the Bristol dirt in March 2021. Byron finished 13th.

Needless to say, Byron was not happy with how the race ended.
“[Logano] runs everybody over, so I don’t see what’s different,” he said. “He does it to everybody and didn’t even let us finish. He goes in there 10 miles an hour faster. Stupid.”

Logano told Fox Sports that the bump was retaliation for an incident earlier in the race.
“You’re not going to put me in the wall and not get anything back,” Logano said. “That’s how that works.”

Byron pushed back, saying that the two drivers were close off Turn 2 and that he believed it spooked Logano.
“He’s just an idiot. I mean, he does this stuff all the time. I’ve seen it with other guys. He drove in there 10 miles an hour too fast and with these Next Gen cars, he slammed me so hard it knocked the whole right side off the car and no way to make the corner,” Byron said. “So, yeah he’s just a moron.
“He can’t win a race so he does it that way. It was close racing on the restart (before the initial contact). We were faster than him, obviously, at the end; right rear started to go away and, yeah, he didn’t even make it a contest.”
