Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic contract: Length, salary and trophy record

By | May 26, 2022

After defying the doubters in his first season as manager of Celtic, all eyes are on the future of Ange Postecoglou.

A surprise appointment in Glasgow, the Australian has taken Scottish football by storm and will end his first campaign there with two trophies.

That success means Postecoglou is in a strong position when it comes to securing his long-term future with the club.

How long is Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic contract?

Postecoglou was handed a one-year rolling contract when he was initially signed by Celtic in June 2021.

Former Socceroo Harry Kewell was critical of that decision at the time, claiming the Aussie would need longer to truly make his mark.

Postecoglou, however, hit the ground running winning the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Premiership in his first season.

After wrapping up the league title on May 11 with a game to spare, the Daily Record reports that Celtic are set to hold fresh contract talks with Postecoglou.

The Australian coach appears poised to be rewarded for his successful first season, with a longer-term deal and an improved salary both likely.

At the end of the season, Postecoglou called for calm surrounding his contract situation, suggesting he won’t play hard ball over new terms.

“People shouldn’t fret about that stuff. That’s not what drives me. It’s not what I am kind of seeking,” Postecoglou said.

“I have always been driven by trying to create things that are special and being part of something that lasts.

“I am at a big football club, with 60,000 people here each week. It’s one of the most famous clubs in the world, we will be playing in the Champions League next year and I can win trophies. I couldn’t be happier.”

How much is Ange Postecoglou earning at Celtic?

While there’s nothing official about Postecoglou’s current Celtic wages, he will no doubt be earning more next season.

The Hoops previous manager Neil Lennon was reportedly earning around £2.4 million (US$2.9m) a year and received £600,000 after resigning in early 2021.

Postecoglou was likely offered less than Lennon in his first year but could soon rival those terms depending on how these latest contracts talks unfold.

The Aussie may have also been entitled to bonuses this season based upon Celtic’s success in the League Cup and Scottish Premiership.

How many trophies has Ange Postecoglou won?

Postecoglou’s impressive trophy record has played a telling part in his career progression with his latest victories set to help his cause at Celtic.

Across his coaching career to date, the Australian was won 18 titles at both club and international level.

His most successful club stint to date in terms of silverware was with his boyhood side South Melbourne.
