Tony Khan Did Not Want To Rush CM Punk Into World Title Picture

By | May 26, 2022

CM Punk will finally get his shot at the AEW World Championship at this Sunday’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view. The road to the top hasn’t been easy for The Second City Saint. Punk has been involved in feuds with several of the company’s top stars before finally taking his shot at “Hangman” Adam Page.

Tony Khan held a press conference to talk about the big event. While discussing CM Punk’s ascent up the AEW ranks, Khan noted that he didn’t want to rush things. It made more sense to work his way to the top, according to a tweet from F4W Online.

“Khan thought it made sense for CM Punk to face top wrestlers when he started and not be rushed into World title scene so he could work his way up. Cites Allin, Kingston, MJF as opponents. Says Hangman Page did the same working his way up.”

CM Punk took a lengthy break from pro wrestling after becoming disillusioned with WWE in 2014. Since then, he has fought twice for UFC, losing both bouts. His comeback to AEW was met with huge fanfare.

Punk is the biggest star in AEW and his pursuit of the top title is a big deal. Tony Khan knew he had something special and didn’t want to rush things. Now, Punk finally gets his shot on Sunday night.

Las Vegas is sure to be buzzing in the days leading up to Punk’s battle with Adam Page. It has been a long time coming. CM Punk’s most recent world championship reign ended in 2013 at the hands of The Rock. Punk is dying to get his hands on some gold once again.
