Devin Haney has confirmed father Bill has been granted a last-minute visa for travel to Australia and will face a mad dash to be ringside for Sunday’s fight against George Kambosos at Marvel Stadium.
Bill Haney, who is also Devin’s head trainer, had his visa application to head Down Under initially denied because of 1992 drug conviction in the U.S.

However, Devin Haney revealed his father had received a reprieve from Australian border authorities by retweeting a tweet indicating his father was now clear to travel to Melbourne.

With the visa granted around 40 hours before the start of his fight with Kambosos, Haney’s father will have to board a flight from the U.S to Australia shortly to ensure he is in his son’s corner.

Bill Haney spoke about the reasons why he was denied entry to Australia in mid-May.
“To dispel a lot of the rumours that’s going on, Devin did not miss the press conference in Australia due to anything on his account,” Haney told the Trill Boxing Talk podcast.
“I wasn’t able to board the flight. They said that my visa hasn’t been approved, it hasn’t been denied, but at this point in time, I wasn’t allowed to go through customs.
“I made some mistakes and did things at 22, 23 years old, which Devin is now, that hopefully he won’t ever have to make those mistakes.”
Haney confirmed he’d done time for a drug offence 30 years ago, preventing him travelling with his son.
“I have a felony on my record that goes back to 1992. A federal drug conviction that I served time on,” Haney said.
“Any conviction you’ve had where you served a year or more, it stops you from getting into the country.”
