Even for the man with the most Grand Slam titles in history, Rafael Nadal might never make as much money directly from his on-court exploits as he will in 2022.
Aside from the usual hike in prize money offered by some of the majors, Nadalis aiming for a third Grand Slam of the year, having taken the maximum rewards available by winning the Australian Open and the French Open so far this year. He had to withdraw at the semifinals stage with injury at Wimbledon.
As another lucrative year continues apace for Nadal, The Sporting News has taken a look at just how much money he’s made in his record-setting career so far.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Nadal is worth an estimated $220 million (£178.8m).
The king of clay is one of the most sought-after sportsmen in the world for sponsors, with endorsers including long-term backers Kia and sportswear giants Nike.
Nadal has promoted a digital autograph company and telecommunications company Mejor Conectados in the build-up to Wimbledon 2022.

To date, as per the ATP, Nadal has made more than $131.3m (£111.9m) in career earnings.
That makes Nadal the second-highest male earner in history behind one of the only players to regularly rival him in recent times, Novak Djokovic.
Fellow modern great Roger Federer’s inactivity since Wimbledon 2021 has allowed Nadal to move slightly ahead of the Swiss superstar, and the gap between the pair is likely to widen as the 41-year-old misses this year’s action following knee surgery.
Nadal’s investments include tennis and sport academies, tech businesses, luxury yachts and cars, real estate, tech partnerships, philanthropy and even a restaurant alongside singer Enrique Iglesias and football megastar Cristiano Ronaldo, according to Yahoo Finance.
The 36-year-old has raked in more than twice as much across his career as the player immediately behind Federer in the earnings table, Andy Murray.
His 2022 Australian Open triumph earned Nadal more than $2m (£1.6m), and his French Open glory was worth around $707,000 (£575,000).

The 22-time major winner has just shy of that on Twitter – more than 15.7m – and more than 14m on Facebook.
In comparison, Wimbledon top seed Djokovic has 11.2m followers on Instagram, while Federer, whose eight Wimbledon singles titles make him the most successful male player in history at SW19, has 9.7m.
