Juan Francisco Estrada vs. Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez 3 live fight updates, results, highlights from 2022 boxing fight

By | December 3, 2022

Sometimes, the perfect dance partner is hard to find. That is not the case for Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, who complement one another nicely.

Both super-flyweights have fought one another for over 24 rounds. They will dance another 12 when they face off for Estrada’s The Ring and the vacant WBC super-flyweight title on December 3. The fight takes place inside Arizona’s Desert Diamond Arena.

The two first met in 2012, with Gonzalez beating Estrada via unanimous decision. In the rematch in 2021, Estrada beat “Chocolatito” via split decision. During that fight, a super-flyweight-record 2,529 punches were thrown.

This fight isn’t between two bitter rivals but two warriors who respect the other’s craft. Estrada is elated this rivalry has managed to come to fruition.

“Like a lot of other fighters, when I first started, I did want to try to get to a point where I could have big, meaningful fights that could go down in history,” Estrada told Boxing News, via Boxing Scene. “The one thing that surprised me or is a little different is that I really didn’t expect to have these amazing two fights with a Nicaraguan. Because of my weight division, I always thought that my biggest fights would be against an Asian champion because of the smaller weights. But it ended up being that my two biggest fights were against a great Nicaraguan champion like Gonzalez… I believe we have a lot of similarities. We both have an equal will to win, but also aggression and great technique, so I believe everything meshes together to make a great fight.”

Before the second fight, Estrada went 15-1, while “Chocolatito” went 16-2. Gonzalez last fought in March, beating Julio Cesar Martinez via unanimous decision. Estrada returned in September, beating Argi Cortes via UD. Both tested positive for COVID-19 before their last bouts, delaying the trilogy.

On the same weekend as Tyson Fury vs. Derek Chisora 3, Estrada and Gonzalez will look to show just how special their trilogy is. Something has got to give.

The Sporting News will provide live analysis and highlights from Estrada vs. Gonzalez 3. Stay tuned!
