It was a disappointing ending to a promising World Juniors this past summer for the USA. After winning all four group games, the Americans were upset by Czechia in the quarterfinals, ruining the USA’s chance at a medal.
But that is in the past, and the USA has its eyes on returning to the podium at the 2023 World Juniors. New head coach Rand Pecknold has finalized his roster for the upcoming games taking place in the Maritimes.
The key returners for the United States are defenseman Luke Hughes and forward Logan Cooley. The two first-round selections were instrumental in the team’s success at the 2022 tournament and will be relied upon again this winter.
Looking at the new faces for the USA, Cutter Gauthier, Jimmy Snuggerud and Lane Hutson are the three that stand out as likely to be the most impactful. Gauthier and Snuggerud played on a line with Cooley when the trio were with the U.S. U18 national team, and could join forces again. Hutson has excelled as a freshman in the NCAA and could provide offense from the back end.
