In one of the most intriguing matchups of NFL Super Wild Card weekend, the fourth-seeded Jaguars will host the fifth-seeded Chargers on Saturday night.
This matchup will be a battle of two of the quarterbacks of tomorrow. Los Angeles’ Justin Herbert and Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence start their journeys toward NFL stardom in earnest. Both are making their playoff debuts.

The Jaguars finished 9-8 after going to 6-1 to end the regular season. The run was helped along by Lawrence blossoming under first-year Jacksonville coach Doug Pederson. The Chargers, meanwhile, finished 10-7 behind a huge season from Herbert, but they seek more consistency moving into the postseason.

Both teams can make a huge splash with a win, and the winning QB’s arrival onto the NFL’s big stage will inevitably be announced. This will be the second of six games on the weekend, and the nightcap for Saturday.

Chargers vs. Jaguars live updates, highlights from NFL wild-card game
(All times Eastern)
Third Quarter
10:14 p.m. — If there’s solace to be had here, it’s that Lawrence looks a bit more confident zipping the ball around. Those four interceptions loom large, but a string of completions on this drive does have the Jaguars moving.
10:11 p.m. — Following a failed screen attempt, the Chargers punt and the Jaguars take a fair catch inside their own 15. Big possession here for the Jaguars offense as they try to get back into the game.
10:09 p.m. — The Chargers have come out very aggressive here, passing multiple times on early downs. They now face another third-and-10 here, as the Jaguars look for a stop. They’re at the Jaguars 38-yard line.
10:08 p.m. — The Chargers convert on third down with a clear-out crossing route to Gerald Everett. The Jaguars jumped offsides on the play, and it’s first down L.A.
10:06 p.m. — The Chargers start with the ball here in the second half, and they immediately get into a third-and-9 situation. Jaguars need to do their jobs here on third down.
Halftime
9:53 p.m. — The Chargers played a terrific first half, but the story is just how bad the Jaguars have been. They’ve turned the ball over five times, four of them coming on Trevor Lawrence interceptions. They have just 3.3 yards per play. And they’re 0 of 7 on third down. Ultimately, if they’re going to come back, they just have to be better, no two ways about it. For the Chargers, Lawrence has completed 15 of 24 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown. Austin Ekeler has a pair of TDs, and they started 5 of 7 of third down (but they did go 0 for 3 to end the half). If things are going to turn around, it has to start on the Chargers’ opening possession of the second half for Jacksonville.
Second Quarter
9:51 p.m. — The Chargers take a knee to kill the clock and head to the locker room up 27-7. Almost a perfect first half for Los Angeles.
9:49 p.m. — The Jaguars finally get on the board after a beautiful pass from Lawrence to Evan Engram over the middle. Dotted it between three defenders on the in-and-up route, and the Jaguars close the gap, a tad. Chargers 27, Jaguars 7.

9:46 p.m. — On third-and-6, the Jaguars find Kirk over the middle and he was tackled well short. The Jaguars went for it on fourth down and did convert, however. But the Jaguars are 0 for 7 on third down.
9:43 p.m. — Another weird punt that looked like it could have been disastrous is returned to the Chargers 49-yard line. Jaguars will look to turn things around starting now heading into the half, but the Chargers will get the ball out of the break.
9:40 p.m. — Keenan Allen is such a difference maker. He has great hands and he showed them on that second-and-10 pass for nine yards. The Chargers will punt after a botched end around, but first we have the two-minute warning.
9:37 p.m. — The Jaguars get into fourth-and-2 following a Kirk drop on a poor throw from Lawrence. Rather than going for it, Cooke punts and the Chargers will start from their own 18 with 3:11 left.
9:32 p.m. — This is now bound to come up. The biggest playoff comebacks in NFL history: Bills defeat Oilers after trailing by 32, 1993. Colts defeat Chiefs after trailing by 28, 2014. Patriots defeat Falcons after trailing by 25, 2017. So this isn’t insurmountable — But we’re approaching it.
9:31 p.m. — The Jaguars defense holds fast inside the 10, forcing a Chargers field goal attempt. Sometimes, all you can take is what you’re given. Chargers 27, Jaguars 0.
9:29 p.m. — Even when things go right, they go wrong. Following a punt forced by the Jaguars defense, Jacksonville muffs the punt as a player got hit on the helmet, and the Jaguars have it first and goal. Wildly unfortunate play for the Jaguars to top off an absolute debacle of a half.
Everything coming up powder blue tonight.

9:21 p.m. — Yet ANOTHER interception for Samuel on a low pass to Engram. That’s THREE interceptions for Samuel in the first half, and four picks for Lawrence this half. It’s a disaster. No two ways about it.

9:20 p.m. — Jamal Agnew tries to give the Jaguars a boost there, with a good return up to midfield. Christian Kirk drops a pass over the middle following a hard hit, while Evan Engram can’t haul in the next pass. It’s another pivotal third down, as the Jaguars seek their first conversion.
9:18 p.m. — If you’re trying to figure out what stats tell the story of this game, well, pick one. The Chargers have 10 first downs to the Jaguars’ three, they’re 5 of 7 on third down vs. the 0 for 4 Jaguars, they have 163 yards up against 53, and they have three takeaways to zero for Jacksonville.
9:15 p.m. — After ending up in third-and-goal following an incompletion and a short gain, Herbert finds Everett over the middle for a touchdown to increase the lead. Chargers 24, Jaguars 0.

9:13 p.m. — The Chargers take what probably should have been a free play and pick up another 13 yards to Joshua Palmer on a comeback route down to the Jaguars 8. A false start brings it back to the 13-yard line, but it remains first-and-goal.

9:11 p.m. — It continues to go from bad to worse on third-and-11, as Herbert hits Keenan Allen in a soft spot of the zone for a big first down. L.A. is now at the Jaguars 24-yard line, as Jacksonville desperately searches for answers.
9:09 p.m. — Part of the Chargers’ early success: Through these first five possessions their average starting field position is the Jaguars 43-yard line. The Jags need to flip the field to have a chance here.
9:06 p.m. — Coming out of the first quarter, the Chargers pick up where they left off with a coverage sack on third down to force a punt. It goes out of bounds at the Chargers’ 38-yard line, so Los Angeles will take over already with a large lead.
First Quarter
9 p.m. — No two ways about it, it’s been bad for Jacksonville. Lawrence is 4 of 13 passing with three interceptions to start, with just 30 yards. The goal now will be to recalibrate and start over heading into the second quarter. The Chargers have come out extremely aggressive, so the onus is on Jacksonville to flip the script.
8:57 p.m. — Ekeler again scores with ease for the Chargers on a first-and-goal, and things go from bad to worse for the Jaguars. It is dead quiet in Jacksonville, as the Chargers extend their lead with little resistance. Before the end of the first quarter, it is Chargers 17, Jaguars 0.

8:54 p.m. — The Jaguars thought they had a big gain on a pass interference down the right sideline, but the flag gets picked up. In a third-and-5, the Jaguars once again get picked off by Samuel, who jumped the route. Brutal first quarter here for Lawrence and Jacksonville.
8:51 p.m. — The Jaguars defense stepped up in a big way there with a three-and-out for the Chargers offense. Huge early possession to keep it a two-score game, and the Jaguars offense will start inside their own 20-yard line.
8:45 p.m. — The upback got blocked into Logan Cooke on the punt, affecting his kick. The ball lands around midfield, to once again give the Chargers good field position. Jacksonville is entering dangerous territory here early.
8:43 p.m. — Lawrence, of course, isn’t above scrutiny early here. But this Chargers defense is really flying around and attacking the short to intermediate passing game. The Jaguars have to find a way to open them up.
8:37 p.m. — Allen again catches a swing pass to the left to get to the 4-yard line, and a pair of incompletions forces the Chargers into fourth down. Dicker hits the chip shot field goal to increase the Chargers lead here in the first quarter, while the Jaguars offense seeks answers. Chargers 10, Jaguars 0.
8:35 p.m. — The Chargers are continuing to move the ball well, now at the Jaguars 10-yard line following a side-arm pass from Herbert to Allen. Rocket of a throw for an easy six yards on third-and-5.
8:32 p.m. — Doug Pederson is apparently displeased with the no-call on Samuel on that pick, as Samuel was draped on Zay Jones at the top of Jones’ route. Would have been a first down for the Jaguars.
BACK-TO-BACK INTERCEPTIONS!

8:29 p.m. — The Jaguars have continued to drive, now at the Chargers 34, and they went for it on fourth-and-7. Lawrence, however, gets picked off again — this time by Asante Samuel — trying to force it. The Chargers will once again start with good field position following a decision that will undoubtedly be scrutinized.
8:24 p.m. — Lawrence recovers nicely off the play action. He put a perfect throw to Evan Engram on a deep out route to get to Jacksonville’s own 41-yard line. Terrific pass by the QB.
8:19 p.m. — The Chargers capitalize in just two plays, with Austin Ekeler punching it in! Chargers take a 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the game, and the Jaguars have some ground to make up. Chargers 7, Jaguars 0.
