Ravens vs. Bengals live score, updates, highlights from NFL wild-card playoff game

By | January 15, 2023

Will this be the start of another deep playoff run by the Bengals?

Cincinnati finished the 2022 season on an eight-game winning streak and hasn’t lost since October. Between Joe Burrow, an outstanding collection of weapons and a quietly powerful defense, the Bengals are well-positioned to compete for another AFC championship.

The Ravens would like to stop them in their tracks.

Baltimore split the season series with Cincinnati and took the battle for the AFC North crown into January, but John Harbaugh’s team enters Sunday night’s matchup as a decisive underdog. QB Lamar Jackson (knee) will not play, leaving Tyler Huntley or Anthony Brown to keep up with one of the NFL’s budding stars in Burrow.

The Ravens’ defense has performed well against the Bengals this season, holding Cincinnati to 17 points in October and shutting down Joe Mixon in Week 18. The unit has looked better since adding Roquan Smith in midseason, so it could keep this game closer than many expect.

The Bengals have experienced quite a turnaround in the past year. They entered last season’s playoffs looking for their first postseason win in 31; now, they go into this game with expectations of a comfortable victory.

Ravens vs. Bengals live updates, highlights from 2023 NFL playoff game

(All times Eastern)

Final: Bengals 24, Ravens 17

11:17 p.m. — This game is OVER. Huntley’s Hail Mary attempt was on target and nearly deflected into the hands of James Proche II, but it falls incomplete. The Bills and Bengals will meet again.

11:15 p.m. — 4th & 20 for the Ravens and these two are exchanging timeouts. The Ravens still have one left, even though it would’ve been more helpful earlier. Baltimore needs something miraculous here.

11:14 p.m. — Here’s the situation: 3rd & 20 from the 27-yard line with 15 seconds left. This has unraveled for the Ravens, who can’t pass the ball as well as most teams in this situation. Those timeouts would’ve been useful. Harbaugh still has them.

11:12 p.m. — A hold on Kevin Zeitler pushes the Ravens back to the 27-yard line with 22 seconds left.

11:11 p.m. — Much like Jim Harbaugh in the Fiesta Bowl, John Harbaugh lets a lot of time run off the clock despite having two timeouts in hand…odd.

11:11 p.m. — The Ravens pick up two first downs and get into the red zone. Under a minute left. This is getting serious in Cincinnati.

11:08 p.m. — Huntley finds a hole and gets through on fourth down. The Ravens are still alive but only have 95 seconds to work with. For a team that prefers to run the ball, that matters.

11:04 p.m. TWO-MINUTE WARNING — Officials call a first down for Justice Hill, but it doesn’t look like he got there…if not, the Ravens will go for it on 4th & Inches.

11:01 p.m. — The Ravens are going to have great field position here. Daxton Hill moved the punt back five yards with a false start, and he ran out of bounds on the punt to move the Ravens up another five yards. That could be very costly.

10:59 p.m. — Cincinnati makes up 14 yards on two plays, but a punt will give the Ravens a chance with more than three minutes on the clock.

10:58 p.m. — Burrow overthrows what could’ve been a big-time gain by Chase. The Bengals are set back to 2nd & 19 thanks to a holding penalty. They need yards, if only to avoid giving the Ravens great field position.

10:56 p.m. — B.J. Hill sacks Huntley, eliminating any fourth down decision. All the Ravens can do is punt and hope for a stop. The Bengals will start with 4:34 remaining. Can their offense break through and end this game?

10:55 p.m. — Huge third down coming here. The Ravens need 10 yards.

10:54 p.m. — Huntley finds Andrews for a big 29-yard gain. Andrews is up to 67 yards tonight, most of which came on two catches.

10:51 p.m. — Well, the Ravens find a way to get the stop anyway. Baltimore sacks Burrow and forces another punt. Here comes the biggest drive of the game for Baltimore.

10:48 p.m. — The Ravens did what they needed to do and forced a three-and-out, but Geno Stone goes into the leg of punter Drue Chrisman and gives the Bengals new life. Stone almost blocked that one…instead, it’s a first down for Cincinnati.

10:42 p.m. — An incomplete pass by Huntley is initially ruled a fumble recovered for a first down, but that one wasn’t close. The Ravens are going to punt and hope their defense can rise up.

10:39 p.m. — The Bengals’ defense is playing with renewed energy now. Mike Hilton sacks Huntley for an 8-yard loss.

10:36 p.m. — A lot of highlights on that Ravens drive, and the only one that mattered belonged to the Bengals. The Ravens will get possession here, but that feels like the best chance Baltimore was going to have all night.

Bengals 24, Ravens 17

10:34 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — That’s a BENGALS touchdown.  Logan Wilson knocks the ball out from Huntley’s hands on the sneak, and Sam Hubbard chugs 98 yards all the way to the opposite end zone for the touchdown. A fantastic drive wasted by the Ravens, but what a moment for Cincinnati.

10:32 p.m. — Huntley takes off and runs for 35 yards! The Ravens have 1st & Goal as the backup quarterback’s great half rolls on.

10:28 p.m. — Tremendous catch by Mark Andrews to take the Ravens into Bengals territory. He was covered well by Bates but went up and hauled it in anyway.

End of third quarter: Bengals 17, Ravens 17

10:24 p.m. — Edwards gets the Ravens’ drive started with a first down just before the end of the quarter. This is a big moment for a Bengals defense that hasn’t played like it did during the eight-game win streak.

10:21 p.m. — The Ravens force a three-and-out after a pass breakup by Marcus Peters, and you can start to feel some tension…third quarter nearing an end.

Bengals 17, Ravens 17

10:14 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Wow, Demarcus Robinson gets huge separation from Eli Apple and hauls in a pass from Huntley for the score. 41 yards. This game is tied, and the Ravens made it look easy on that drive.

10:12 p.m. — A 27-yard catch-and-run for Dobbins, which is followed by a 13-yard gain for Gus Edwards. The Ravens are powering their way into Bengals territory.

Bengals 17, Ravens 10

10:07 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Burrow pushes his way forward for the touchdown. The Bengals are back in front, and great separation in the end zone by Tee Higgins allows Cincinnati to get the two-point conversion. It’s 17-9, Bengals.

10:02 p.m. — Hayden Hurst catches the ball near the goal line and it’s called a touchdown, but replay should be able to overturn this one… Still a nice throw by Burrow up the middle. Bengals look like they’ll be set up on the doorstep of the end zone.

10:01 p.m. — Burrow is throwing the ball quickly, and it’s working for him. He finds Chase for back-to-back first downs, taking the Bengals into the red zone.

9:55 p.m. — Burrow nearly gets sacked on 3rd & Inches but escapes and runs for the first down. He’s going to need to keep using his legs if Williams remains out.

9:51 p.m. — The Ravens pick up a quick first down, but the Bengals tighten their run defense and force a punt less than three minutes in. Big drive coming for Cincinnati with Jonah Williams still in the locker room.

End of first half: Ravens 10, Bengals 9

9:33 p.m. — We saw the Bengals’ offense for less than three minutes in the second quarter, and the defense will be back on the field to open the second half. Burrow and co. will have to stay warm.

Ravens 10, Bengals 9

9:31 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Justin Tucker drills the short-range field goal. The Ravens lead, but the Bengals badly needed that stop.

9:30 p.m. — This is of course a huge sequence for the Ravens. 3rd & Goal, 13 seconds left. The Bengals will take a timeout to think about it.

9:28 p.m. — Jessie Bates trips up Andrews, so Baltimore has 2nd & Goal with only 16 seconds left.

9:21 p.m. — The Ravens are knocking on the door at the 5-yard line…Eli Apple is down for the Bengals. Jonah Williams is in the locker room. This quarter has devolved into a total mess for Cincinnati.

9:20 p.m. — Woah. The snap goes way over Huntley’s head, but he picks up the ball and finds Mark Andrews for a first down and more. Andrews used pure muscle to get some extra yardage there. Impressive.

9:17 p.m. TWO-MINUTE WARNING — The Ravens are looking to move deeper into field goal range, at the very least, as the half comes to a close. Meanwhile, Bengals LT Jonah Williams was injured on the fumble.

9:13 p.m. FUMBLE — Kyle Hamilton knocks the ball free from Hayden Hurst and recovers! Huge turn of events as Baltimore takes over needing just a field goal to take the lead.

9:12 p.m. — Odafe Oweh picks up the Ravens’ second sack of the night, dropping Burrow for a 6-yard loss.

9:11 p.m. — Burrow and Chase are having a little more trouble on this drive, with two incompletions on two tries.

Bengals 9, Ravens 7

9:04 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Dobbins runs it in for the Ravens’ first points of the night. An extremely methodical drive by Baltimore, as you would expect. Two-point game.

9:01 p.m. — A facemask penalty against Daxton Hill gives the Ravens new life in the red zone. 1st & Goal.

9:00 p.m. — A 14-yard gain by Andrews has the Ravens in the red zone. Obviously, a touchdown feels needed here to keep up with the Bengals.

8:58 p.m. — It was close, but Huntley got past the marker for the first down. The Ravens are doing just enough to keep this drive alive.

8:56 p.m. — Another 3rd & 1, and this time Mark Andrews gets the handoff. He’s short. The Ravens are going for it.

8:54 p.m. — Gus Edwards is able to get the first down, and Dobbins pushes the Ravens deeper into Bengals territory with a 13-yard run.

8:53 p.m. — The Ravens are back up near midfield but face a huge 3rd & 1 here.

Bengals 9, Ravens 0

8:46 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Chase finishes off a tremendous drive with a score! The Bengals are in control up 9-0 after McPherson misses the extra-point. Chase is up to 52 yards.

End of first quarter: Bengals 3, Ravens 0

8:43 p.m. — The Bengals are back in business again after a 12-yard pickup by Chase. 2nd & Goal from the 7-yard line once the second quarter begins.

8:42 p.m. — A taunting penalty moves the Bengals up 10 yards, but a holding call moves the Bengals back 10 yards. Everything is even again.

8:40 p.m. — Great play by Chase, who turns 3rd & 10 into a first down. The Ravens miss a big opportunity to snuff out this drive they gifted the Bengals.

8:39 p.m. — Huge play for the Ravens as Justin Houston sacks Joe Burrow for a nine-yard loss. 2nd & 19 suddenly for Cincinnati.

8:38 p.m. — The Bengals are getting everyone involved, getting a big gain out of Ja’Marr Chase after the drive began with a 13-yard catch by Hayden Hurst. Cincinnati is deep in Baltimore territory.

8:32 p.m. INTERCEPTION — Huntley’s second pass is picked off by Akeem Davis-Gaither. The Bengals instantly spoil a chance for the Ravens to score some points.

8:30 p.m. — The Ravens are up to midfield and running the ball well so far between J.K. Dobbins and Huntley.

Bengals 3, Ravens 0

8:26 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Evan McPherson drills a 39-yard field goal attempt. The Bengals strike first, but the Ravens did well to come up with a defensive stand.

8:24 p.m. — Tee Higgins nearly had a touchdown, but he didn’t come up with the catch or stay in. The Ravens have the Bengals at 3rd & 10 and are hoping to force a field goal try.

8:20 p.m. — The Bengals have a little bit of an offensive breakthrough with a catch up the middle by Tyler Boyd. Cincinnati is just past midfield.

8:18 p.m. — Third-down back Samaje Perine muscles forward for an early Bengals first down.

8:17 p.m. — The Bengals start with the ball and will look to make an early statement against a defense they’ve had mixed results against.

8:10 p.m. — Tyler Huntley is IN tonight. He gets the start for the Ravens after missing Week 18 with shoulder and wrist injuries.

7:38 p.m. — Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase dressed up for the occasion.

7:17 p.m. — It’s about 34 degrees right now in Cincinnati, with very light winds. Cold, but not frigid for two teams that are used to the cold.

7:10 p.m. — If the Ravens win, they’ll advance to face the Chiefs in Kansas City. Based on what we’ve heard this week, Lamar Jackson doesn’t look likely to be ready by next weekend.

7:08 p.m. — The Bengals would face the Bills next weekend with a win tonight. That would be the blockbuster game of the divisional round, even if there wasn’t the storyline of it being a rematch of the game that was cancelled three weeks earlier.

6:48 p.m. — The Bengals enter as pretty heavy favorites with Lamar Jackson out for Baltimore, but could the Dolphins’ near-miss in Buffalo earlier today inspire the Ravens? Cincinnati can’t overlook this game.

6:44 p.m. — The tight ends are, as usual, going to be critical to the Ravens’ chances tonight. Isaiah Likely has emerged as a legitimate weapon alongside Mark Andrews.
