ETIHAD STADIUM, MANCHESTER — Manchester City and Arsenal square off in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday night in a game that could prove to be a phoney war thriller.
The Premier League’s top two are yet to face one another this season, with their previous meeting coming on New Year’s Day 2022, when Rodri snatched a stoppage-time winner for City at Emirates Stadium.
Since then, Mikel Arteta’s vibrant side have emerged as serious contenders for glory, opening up a five-point lead over City while holding a game in hand.
Can the reigning champions make a dent in Arsenal’s irresistible momentum in this blockbuster cup tie? Will what happens at the Etihad Stadium influence matters when the teams reconvene in north London two and a half weeks from now? It’s going to be fun finding out.
Sporting News is following the match and providing live score updates and commentary.

Man City vs Arsenal lineups
Both managers will be looking to balance an important FA Cup game against their title challenges, with changes expected from Guardiola and Arteta.
City will make a late call on Phil Foden (foot) and Guardiola is expected to bring in regular cup goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, in place of Ederson.
Man City projected starting XI (4-3-3): Ortega (GK) — Lewis, Stones, Dias, Ake — Silva, Rodri, Gundogan — Mahrez, Haaland, Grealish
Arteta has no change on the injury front following Arsenal’s 3-2 Premier League win over at Manchester United last weekend and will probably make limited rotations.
Japan international Takehiro Tomiyasu could come in to allow Ben White to take a break from the starting XI.
Arsenal starting XI (4-3-3): Ramsdale (GK) — Tomiyasu, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko — Odegaard, Partey, Xhaka — Saka, Nketiah, Martinelli
