The Yankees’ injury woes don’t appear to be letting up any time soon.
Offseason acquisition Carlos Rodón, who signed a six-year, $162 million contract with the Yankees, has continuously seen the timeline for his debut delayed. He was initially taken out of spring training due to a forearm injury, but a persistent back problem has further hindered his recovery.
According to Bryan Hoch, Rodón’s back injury is “chronic,” and will require a cortisone injection.
There is no timeline at this point for Rodón’s return.
Carlos Rodon said he has been told his back issue is “chronic.” He is tentatively scheduled to have the cortisone injection next week. Asked if a July return is realistic, he said: “I can’t put a timeline on anything. I’ll get this injection and I want to throw as soon as I can.”

What is Carlos Rodon’s injury?
What started as a forearm injury has developed into something far more troublesome for Rodón and the Yankees.
The pitcher has been told he has a “chronic” back injury, and he needs a cortisone injection to treat it.
As a result, Rodón’s timeline to return is unclear.

“I can’t put a timeline on anything,” he said, per Hoch. “I’ll get this injection and I want to throw as soon as I can.” Rodón also said he is not experiencing pain, but tightness. Nevertheless, the injury has prevented him from throwing.
When will Carlos Rodon make his Yankees debut?
With this news, there’s no telling when Rodón will make his first Yankees start, but he has a lot of ramp-up to get there.
Rodón was specifically asked by Hoch about a July return when he sidestepped the question.
The earliest he is likely to return is in mid to late June when considering his throwing program and a rehab stint.
The short answer is without updates it’s TBD.
New York Yankees injuries
Injuries have been the story of the Yankees season so far. Entering Friday, when they commence a weekend set against the first-place Rays, the Yankees are 17-15, last place in the AL East.
Even with Rodón, Frankie Montas, and Luis Severino hurt, however, starting pitching hasn’t been the Yankees’ problem. Gerrit Cole and Nestor Cortes have been steadfast, while Domingo Germán, Jhony Brito, and Clarke Schmidt have picked up the slack for the injuries. Yankee starters are 12-10 with a 4.07 ERA thus far on the year.
The injuries to the bats have been more problematic. Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Josh Donaldson are all on IL and Harrison Bader just got off it. The Yankees are presently 24th in runs per game at just 3.94.
