Tim Tszyu next fight: When, where, what to know about interim world title defence against Carlos Ocampo

By | May 9, 2023

After taking down Tony Harrison in a dominant fashion, Tim Tszyu will look to remain active when he takes on Carlos Ocampo on the Gold Coast in June.

The 28-year-old was originally scheduled to face Charlo for the title in January, however after the champion was ruled out due to injury, Tszyu opted to risk his chance in order to face off against Harrison.

But after obliterating Harrison, Tszyu firmed up his position as the number one contender, and still awaits his shot at undisputed status.

But with more setbacks in the Charlo camp, the Aussie superstar has opted to take on a new challenge and out his IBO interim world title up for grabs.

Here’s everything you need to know about the fight.

When is Tszyu vs Ocampo?

Tim Tszyu will defend his newly-won IBO interim super-welterweight title against Carlos Ocampo on June 18th in Gold Coast, Australia.

The 28-year-old is opting to stay active, despite remaining the No.1 contender to the undisputed king of the division, Jermell Charlo.

Charlo missed the scheduled bout in January due to injury, but speaking during the Showtime broadcast of Tsyu’s fight with Harrison, he is targeting a return by ‘late summer’ in America.

Charlo last fought in May, 2022, when he ran it back with Brian Castana and won KO. Since then, he broke he his hand in two places, removing an chance of his scheduled January 28 original fight date with Tszyu.

“The bloke hasn’t fought for 12 months,” Tszyu told Main Event.

“How long can you keep postponing a fight?”

Tszyu will now face the 34-2 Mexican star in a bid to prove his dominance inside the ring once again.
