PGA Championship weather updates: Saturday’s Round 3 tee times threatened by rain in forecast

By | May 20, 2023

Mother Nature wreaked havoc on the first day of the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club when frost pushed the start of the tournament back nearly two hours.

The rest of the first day of the tournament was crystal clear. So, too, was most of the second day.

But the good conditions won’t last. Rain rolled into the Rochester, N.Y., area on Friday afternoon during the latter part of Round 2. The field was able to play through the inclement weather and complete the round.

The chances of Round 3 being completed Saturday appear slim, based on the local weather forecast.

Here’s what to know about the weather at the PGA Championship and how it will impact the tournament.

PGA Championship weather updates

As of 11 p.m. ET Friday, the PGA of America had not announced a delay of Round 3 of the PGA Championship. The first pairing is scheduled to tee off at 8:10 a.m. ET, while the last pairing is set to go off at 2:50 p.m. ET.

But it appears likely that play will be disrupted at some point, based on the Saturday forecast.

PGA Championship forecast

Per the National Weather Service, there is a 100 percent chance of precipitation Saturday in Pittsford, N.Y., mostly before 4 p.m. ET. It’s not a matter of whether the players will get wet; it’s how much of a problem the weather will be. And it could pose big problems: the Weather Service is calling for a half-inch to three-quarters of an inch of rain.

The good news is that Sunday is set to be sunny with a high of 73 degrees. The players should have a chance to finish the 2023 PGA Championship on time, provided that the delay Saturday doesn’t extend beyond a handful of hours.
