Lord Stanley is in Las Vegas tonight. Will we see him raised on the ice?
The Golden Knights are on the verge of the franchise’s first Stanley Cup championship, as Vegas holds a 3-1 series lead over Florida heading into Game 5 of the 2023 Stanley Cup Final on Tuesday night.
Vegas and Florida split Games 3 and 4 down in Sunrise. After the Panthers secured a 3-2 overtime win to cut the series to 2-1, the Golden Knights earned a 3-2 victory in Game 4, putting the team on the cusp of history.

T-Mobile Arena has treated the Golden Knights quite well during their playoff run. The team is 8-3 when playing in Vegas, and are now presented with the opportunity to raise the Stanley Cup in front of their home crowd.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are hoping to repeat the success from their first-round series against the Bruins. Florida came back from down 3-1 against Boston to knock off the Presidents’ Trophy winner. The club will have to do the same against Vegas in order to win the Stanley Cup, a feat that has only been accomplished once in a final series.
The biggest concern for the Panthers is the absence of star winger Matthew Tkachuk. The forward won’t play in the pivotal Game 5 contest after suffering an injury in Game 3. He powered through Game 4, but won’t be available tonight in Florida’s elimination game.

10:22 p.m.: Hill makes a couple more solid stops in the opening five minutes. He may not win the Conn Smythe, but he has been an awesome story for the Golden Knights during this run.

10:15 p.m.: Third period is underway. The Golden Knights are closing in on the franchise’s first championship.
End of the second period: Golden Knights 6, Panthers 1
9:56 p.m.: The Golden Knights can feel it. They’re 20 minutes away from the franchise’s first-ever Stanley Cup win. It’s going to take a monumental effort from the Panthers in the third.
9:54 p.m.: GOAL! Michael Amadio makes it 6-1 with seconds left in the second, Bobrovsky made the initial save, but Amadio kept at it and eventually put it in behind Bobrovsky. Golden Knights 6, Panthers 1.

9:48 p.m.: GOAL! Make it a pair on the evening for Stone and it’s up to a four-goal lead for Vegas with 2:43 left in the second. He one-times a pass from Howden and Bobrovsky is slow to go across the crease to save it. Golden Knights 5, Panthers 1.

9:45 p.m.: Big stop by Hill on Cousins, who tried to cut through the crease and get around Hill’s pad. Once again, the Vegas goaltender has been nails.
9:41 p.m.: Florida had a great first six minutes or so to start the second. Then the team got pinned in its own zone on back-to-back shifts with tired legs on the ice and just like that, the 2-1 Vegas lead became 4-1.
9:38 p.m.: GOAL! Just like, it’s a three-goal lead for Vegas as Reilly Smith slams home a loose puck. A shot from the point gets blocked, but William Karlsson makes a slick no-look pass to Smith and he makes no mistake with 7:47 to go. Vegas has been dominant in the last two shifts, and have two goals in less than two minutes as a result. Golden Knights 4, Panthers 1.

9:35 p.m.: GOAL! Alec Martinez extends the Vegas lead with a snipe on Bobrovsky. Eichel forced a neutral zone turnover and eventually dropped a pass back to Martinez on the rush, who makes no mistake, putting home the third Golden Knights goal with 9:32 left in the third. Golden Knights 3, Panthers 1.

9:34 p.m.: Vegas finally get a few shifts in the Florida zone to kill some of the Panthers’ momentum. The Eichel line nearly came through, but they couldn’t execute a 3 on 1, and Marchessault’s jam attempt was turned aside by Bobrovsky’s pad.
9:27 p.m.: This has been exactly what the Panthers have needed. A majority of the play through the first six minutes in the period have been in the Vegas end. The Golden Knights have typically been the more dominant team in second periods in these playoffs, but it hasn’t been the case to start this one.
9:23 p.m.: GOAL! The Panthers on the board jus 2:15 into the second as Ekblad’s shot from the point gets through traffic and beats Hill over the left shoulder. That was a stellar play by Nick Cousins to avoid contact from Ivan Barbashev and gain possession of the puck. Florida, like it has all postseason long, refuses to go away easily. Golden Knights 2, Panthers 1.

9:20 p.m.: Second period is underway at T-Mobile Arena.
End of the first period: Golden Knights 2, Panthers 0
9 p.m.: After 20 minutes, it’s a two-goal lead for Vegas. Stone and Hague scored less than two minutes apart, with Stone first shorthanded, then Hague cleaning up a loose puck in the crease. The power play continues to kill the Panthers. Shots in the period were 11-8 in favor of the Golden Knights.
8:55 p.m.: After allowing the two goals, the Panthers have responded well, getting sustained offensive zone time, but haven’t been able to crack Hill yet. The Golden Knights have been uncharacteristically sloppy at times in their own zone.
8:48 p.m.: GOAL! The Golden Knights double their lead thanks to Nicolas Hague. Eichel tries to jam a short-side shot by Bobrovsky, but it’s initially stopped. Hague eventually knocks in the loose puck in the crease after crashing the net. It’s a two-goal lead for Vegas with 6:19 to go in the first, with the Hague tally coming less than two minutes after Stone’s opening goal. Golden Knights 2, Panthers 0.

8:46 p.m.: Kolesar is out of the box as Vegas kills the penalty. The power play woes continue for Florida, who also allow the shorthanded tally.
8:44 p.m.: GOAL! Mark Stone opens the scoring in Game 5, and it comes shorthanded. After a sensational stop by Hill on Barkov at one end, Stone goes down on a 2 on 1, waited, waited and then roofed the puck over Bobrovsky. The captain gives Vegas an early lead with 8:08 remaining in the first. Golden Knights 1, Panthers 0.

8:40 p.m.: Now it’s Florida heading to the power play. Keegan Kolesar is called for roughing after he gave Sam Bennett an extra shove after a hit. The Panthers haven’t scored a power play goal yet in the series, and will have to do it without Tkachuk on the top unit tonight.
8:39 p.m.: Florida kills off the Ekblad minor. Vegas got two shots on goal during the power play. There’s under 10 minutes left in the opening frame.
8:37 p.m.: Jonathan Marchessault nearly opens the scoring on the power play, but his attempt from the slot is swallowed by Bobrovsky. That was a slick passing play from Theodore at the point to Eichel at the dot to Marchessault in the bumper spot in the middle, but it wouldn’t go.
8:35 p.m.: A little less than eight minutes into the contest, and Vegas heads to the first power play. Aaron Ekblad knocks down Brett Howden on the forecheck and he’ll sit for interference.
8:28 p.m.: This has been an excellent start for the Panthers. We’re not quite five minutes into the contest and the team already has five shots on Hill, forcing him to make a couple of big saves.
8:25 p.m.: A massive save by Hill in the opening minutes as he stones Anton Lundell from close range. Jack Eichel couldn’t control a pass from Brayden McNabb while breaking out, sending Lundell in alone, but Hill came up with a blocker stop.

7:52 p.m.: With no Tkachuk, Paul Maurice and his staff have put the Florida forward lines in a blender. I would expect these groupings to change throughout the contest. The defensive pairings remain the same, with Sergei Bobrovsky in the net.

7:49 p.m.: No lineup changes for Vegas. Once again, it’ll be Adin Hill manning the crease for the Golden Knights.
Once again no changes for the Golden Knights. Pregame line rushes for Game 5 of the Cup Final:

7:38 p.m.: With no Tkachuk, Grigori Denisenko is expected to make his NHL playoff debut tonight.
7:35 p.m.: Brutal news for the Panthers. Tkachuk will not play tonight due to his injury. There hasn’t been an official announcement from the team yet, but Sportsnet’s Kyle Bukauskas reported before Game 5 that he won’t be available.

6:45 p.m.: The odds are certainly in Vegas’ favor, up 3-1 in the series. There have been 37 teams in NHL history to go up 3-1 in the final series in. Out of those 37 teams, 36 have gone on to win the Stanley Cup. The lone exception was the 1942 Maple Leafs, who came back from down 3-0 to the Red Wings to win the championship.
6:30 p.m.: The biggest storyline heading into Game 5 is the status of Tkachuk. He did not practice with the team before Tuesday night’s elimination game, and Paul Maurice did not have an update on Tkachuk. It looks like it’s a game-time decision for the Florida winger.
