Football fans will be waiting nervously for the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League group stage draw as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City begin their title defence this season.

City’s success in Istanbul marked a first-ever Champions League title for the club as part of a historic trophy treble win for Guardiola’s team at the back end of the 2022/23 campaign.

However, the new season means a new page is turned in the competition, with 32 teams entering the group stages with the hope of glory in the final at Wembley in 2024.

What time is the Champions League group stage draw?

The draw ceremony will start at 6 p.m. local time (CET) at the Grimaldi Forum, Monaco, on August 31, 2023. Here’s how that looks in territories around the world:

Which teams are in the Champions League draw?

The draw will include 32 teams, with 24 automatic qualifiers already confirmed, with six teams emerging through the playoff rounds ahead of the draw.

These teams are divided into four pots of eight teams, with the eight groups taking one team from each pot. Teams from the same association, such as Manchester City and Arsenal, cannot be drawn in the same group as per UEFA rules.

The exact lineup in each pot was decided on the basis of UEFA’s coefficient rankings following the conclusion of the final playoff matches on August 30.
