What is the Taylor Swift movie? Release date, trailer & more to know about Eras Tour concert film

By | October 11, 2023

Don’t lie, you’ve heard about Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

It’s on track to become the highest-grossing concert tour ever with a projected gross of over $2 billion by the time she finishes her shows in North America alone. She’s about to set off to South America, Australia, Asia and Europe until next August before returning to North America for 15 shows between Toronto and Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis.

Can’t make it to her show? No worries, you can now experience the Eras Tour in theaters. The singer announced the release of her concert film in August, coming to theaters exactly two weeks before the release of her album “1989 (Taylor’s Version).”

What is Taylor Swift Eras Tour movie?

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” is almost a documentary, capturing the first three of six shows at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Made to be an immersive experience, it will be about a three-hour long movie, not much shorter than each of Swift’s Eras Tour shows.

“Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged 🫶 1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk)” Swift wrote in her movie announcement.

Swift, known as a do-it-herself musician, made the movie deal directly with AMC Theatres, meaning she produced the movie herself and bypassed the typical middleman of studios. This occurred for many reasons including speed of production and the fact that she didn’t need the marketing that came with it. Her team would do more than OK in that aspect.

With sky-high demand to see the movie, others realized they would be competing with Swift if their movies were released the same day. Soon after the announcement of the Eras Tour movie, “The Exorcist: Believer” was moved to an earlier release date, Oct. 6.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour movie release date

Swift’s Eras Tour film will officially hit over 8,000 theaters worldwide on Friday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. If you know Swift, there’s no way she would pass up the opportunity to release it on Friday the 13th. (For those who don’t, 13 is her lucky number.) The premiere took place Wednesday, Oct. 11 at The Grove in Los Angeles.

While the movie has a deal with AMC, it will be released at theater chains around the world. Early-bird fans will be able to buy collectible popcorn buckets and cups from select companies including AMC, Cinemark, Regal, Landmark and Galaxy Theatres.

Following opening weekend, the Taylor Swift movie will be shown multiple times a day only on Thursdays through Sundays. This was a decision likely made to ensure sold-out or packed showings.

Taylor Swift movie ticket sales

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” is expected to be one of the biggest concert films ever with advanced tickets sales surpassing $100 million. On the international stage, the movie expected to bring in $150 million more.

To avoid a repeat of Ticketmaster’s infamous crash during Swift’s concert ticket sales, AMC said it upgraded its website.

The film’s tickets are a bit more expensive than the average movie cost. Adult tickets cost $19.89 while children’s tickets cost $13.13. Obvious references to, again, Swift’s lucky number and her fifth studio album named for her birth year.

Released on Aug. 31, the Eras Tour move trailer includes clips from Swift’s SoFi Stadium shows overlapped with her performance of “Cruel Summer,” one of her most-streamed songs ever.

Taylor Swift movie NFL promotion

NFL fans got a taste for Swift’s Eras Tour movie during the Week 4 game between the Chiefs and Jets, a game she attended to watch rumored love interest Travis Kelce. NBC, which televised the Sunday night game, showed Swift throughout the game alongside her celebrity friends Hugh Jackman, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.

A report by the New York Post says the NFL pushed its TV networks to promote Swift’s movie. ESPN and NBC agreed, while Fox and CBS did not run any commercials for it that week.

Amazon Prime will be airing Kansas City’s Thursday night game against the Broncos, so viewers may see more promotion for the movie before its official release.
