Colorado continues its march towards bowl game qualification with a Friday night duel with 1-4 Stanford.
The Buffaloes (4-2) showed off their flair for the dramatic last weekend, inching past Arizona State by way of a last-second field goal. It was a momentous rally, all things considered; the Buffs had just 50 seconds to trek their way down the field after Arizona State leveled things at 24. But when you have Shedeur Sanders, you have a chance. And with the flick of his wrist, the younger Sanders put Colorado on the ascendancy: his 43-yard completion laid the groundwork for Alejandro Mata’s game winner just seconds later.
The Buffaloes find themselves just two wins away from a spot in the postseason. That’s not too shabby for a team that limped to just one win in 2022, even if that team is vastly different to the one that strutted onto Folsom Field last year.
Travis Hunter’s imminent return looks poised to breathe life into a Buffaloes fanbase already teeming with it. The most exciting player in college football has missed each of Colorado’s last three games after suffering a lacerated liver vs. Colorado State. It remains to be see quite what role he will play on Friday; it’s hard to go from not playing to seeing the field on 100+ snaps. However, with Hunter, Omarion Miller and Xavier Edwards waiting in the wings, the younger Sanders should have plenty of weapons to lay waste to a Stanford defense that has looked porous at times.
