For the first time since 1982, Formula One will race in Las Vegas, Nevada again this year.
The newly created Las Vegas Grand Prix debuts in 2023 which is made up of 17 corners and is a mix of both purpose-built track and street circuit as the drivers are set to race past some of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
As it’s the debut race at the event, predictions are difficult to make in advance, especially as current three-time World Drivers’ Championship winner Max Verstappen even admitted to having “a lot to do” after struggling during preparation on the simulator.
With the race taking place late at night too, low temperatures are also likely to play a huge part in deciding this result as F1 potentially looks set to experience one of its coldest Grand Prix races in history.
Who will win the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix?
With a new circuit to learn and potential cold weather to deal with all weekend long, the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix could throw up a few surprises in terms of finishing results.
As mentioned before, Verstappen has already admitted to have struggled with his preparation for this race with the Dutchman saying that he still has a lot of work to do ahead of the action. He spoke to media after the last race in São Paulo saying, “I still don’t even know the track, to be honest. The last time I tried it on the F1 game, I think I hit more walls than I was going straight, so let’s hope that’s not the case when I start driving there!”
Even with his preparation being far from ideal, the Red Bull man is still the bookmakers’ big favourite at -400 with DraftKings as the Austrian constructors continue to dominate the rest of the field thanks to their extremely quick and reliable car. Verstappen has so far won 17 out of the 20 Grand Prix races this year as he continues to further extend the single season winning record in the sport.
His closest competitor here is expected to be McLaren’s Lando Norris (+900) who has been in his own stunning form of late. The British constructor began this season in disarray with a number of high profile low finishes to start the campaign but their upgrades ever since have propelled Norris and rookie teammate Oscar Piastri (+2800) to the front of the chasing pack. This new track could work against the McLaren car which struggles in lower speed corners but at +900, backing Norris to win his first F1 race could be the play.
After Norris, Lewis Hamilton is the bookies’ next favourite to win here in Sin City at +1200. The decorated Mercedes driver has been in mixed form all season long, but his car proved to be a challenge last time out in Brazil. As such, backing him to win here should prove the long shot but his experience could shine through at this new Grand Prix.
Prediction: Back Lando Norris to win at +900 with DraftKings
