Galatasaray vs Man United lineups, starting 11s, team news for Champions League match with Rashford suspended

By | November 28, 2023

Manchester United will be aiming to secure a first Champions League away win of the season as they head to Galatasaray for a key group match.

United’s chances of reaching the Round of 16 hang in the balance ahead of their trip to Turkey with just one win from four European games for Erik ten Hag’s side so far in 2023/24.

Victory in Istanbul would revive United’s hopes of a knockout stage spot, but the picture in Group A remains tight, with Bayern Munich already qualified as group winners.

Defeat at Galatasaray would end United’s chances, a draw would keep them in the running, but they would need to beat Bayern Munich in the final group game to stand any hope of edging out Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen. In that scenario, United would need Copenhagen to draw or lose to Bayern this week, and draw with Galatasaray in their final match.

The Sporting News looks at the latest team news and predicted lineups for the game in Istanbul.

Galatasaray vs Man United lineups

Galatasaray’s squad features a raft of former Premier League players including ex-Crystal Palace captain Wilfried Zaha and Chelsea loanee Hakim Ziyech. Many of them are set to start, with former PSG and Inter striker Mauro Icardi leading the line for Gala.

Injuries and suspensions will force more changes from Ten Hag, with Marcus Rashford serving a one-game ban, and Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, Jonny Evans and Tyrell Malacia all ruled out through injury.

Rasmus Højlund missed the 3-0 Premier League weekend win over Everton and Ten Hag will make a late call on the Danish star’s fitness. Antony could come back in, while Kobbie Mainoo is in contention to start after his star turn at Goodison Park.

Below are the projected starting lineups for both teams ahead of their Champions League match at RAMS Park on November 29.

Galatasaray predicted starting 11

(4-2-3-1): Muslera (GK) — Boey, Sanchez, Bardakcı, Tasende — Ayhan, Torreira — Ziyech, Mertens, Zaha — Icardi.

  • Injured: None
  • Suspended: None

Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk has not indicated any new injuries and the hosts should be at full strength for this clash. Zaha, Dries Mertens and Mauro Icardi all scored in the 4-0 Turkish Super Lig win against Alanyaspor over the weekend.

Man United predicted starting 11

(4-2-3-1): Onana (GK) — Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Shaw — McTominay, Amrabat — Antony, Fernandes, Garnacho — Martial.

  • Injured: Casemiro, Mount, Evans, Eriksen, Malacia, Højlund (doubtful).
  • Suspended: Rashford.

Ten Hag is ready to recall Antony as Rashford’s replacement with the Brazilian international set to shake off a minor knock. Raphael Varane could get the nod over Victor Lindelof at centre back with Sofyan Amrabat competing with Mainoo in the middle.

If Højlund is ruled out, Anthony Martial will continue in attack, after the Frenchman scored his first Premier League goal of the season at Everton.
