For the first time since April, Tiger Woods is playing competitive golf.
He’ll tee it up this weekend in the annual Hero World Challenge, a tournament he hosts to benefit the Tiger Woods Foundation.
The December event will be held at the Albany Golf Course in the Bahamas for the eighth straight year since its move in 2015. Viktor Hovland will be playing for his third consecutive title, but former winners Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth and Woods himself will take the course, too, along with Scottie Scheffler, the world’s No. 1 player.
Woods’ return to golf comes nearly seven months after ankle surgery. He played at the Masters, withdrawing halfway through, but pulled out of the US Open before it began for his procedure.
The golf legend has slowed over the past several seasons due to age and injury. He had back surgery in 2014 and did not play in a major tournament for several years. A car accident in 2021 nearly forced him to retire; while he’s returned to the course since then, his mobility has not been the same.
