The NFL massively changed the Pro Bowl format last season, moving away from a traditional football game and opting for a series of games and skills competitions, including dodgeball and flag football.
The new setup drew different reactions a year ago, with player opt-outs still high but some more compelling moments than a typical Pro Bowl produces.
Regardless of how the format changes, getting selected to the Pro Bowl is still considered an honor for players. To be called a Pro-Bowler is something that matters to players, teams and even agents, and getting chosen as part of the initial roster before any alternates are added is an impressive feat in itself.

Pro Bowl 2024 alternates
These Pro Bowl rosters will fill out much more in the coming weeks. The NFL will also name Pro Bowl alternates, though those players are not yet considered Pro Bowl selections unless they get elevated to the event itself.
Based on previous years, however, there is a strong chance they will be. Some players will likely opt out due to injury or other reasons, while players from the two Super Bowl teams will automatically be replaced after the conference championship games are played.
When is the Pro Bowl in 2024?
The 2024 Pro Bowl Games are split over two days, taking place on Thursday, Feb. 1 and Sunday, Feb. 4 in Orlando, Fla., with ESPN set to televise both sessions.
