Gareth Southgate’s England side take on Brazil on Saturday, March 23, at Wembley in an international friendly.
Two footballing giants come head to head in front of a sell-out crowd at the home of football. While it’s not a competitive fixture, players on both sides are competing to prove their worth ahead of the European Championship and Copa America tournaments, both of which are this summer.
Southgate has selected a squad that includes 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo. The Man United midfielder only made his Premier League debut earlier in the season but oozes class on the ball and will not look out of place. He was originally left out of the squad, but seemingly Southgate watched his spectacular performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarterfinals and rewarded him with his first England call-up.
Brazil are without Alisson, the Liverpool goalkeeper who is still recovering from injury. However, they will have Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo in attack.

15 mins before kickoff: “He’s the best young talent I’ve seen, by a mile,” Kyle Walker said speaking about Phil Foden pre-match.
30 mins before kickoff: No place in the starting XI for Marcus Rashford tonight, despite scoring a crucial goal against Italy in the European Qualifiers back in October.

45 mins before kickoff: Another first cap of the evening is awarded to Brazil’s Joao Gomes. The Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder has been vital for his club side in the Premier League this season.
1 hour before kickoff: We have the official lineups for this evening! Anthony Gordon starts and makes his England debut. Ollie Watkins also starts for the hosts with Ivan Toney on the bench.
England XI: Pickford (GK) — Walker, Maguire, Stones, Chilwell — Rice, Bellingham, Gallagher — Gordon, Watkins, Foden.
Brazil XI: Bento (GK) — Danilo, Fabricio, Beraldo, Wendell — Bruno Guimaraes, Joao Gomes, Paqueta — Raphinha, Vinicius, Rodrygo.

1 hour 30 mins before kickoff: The official team news will be with us in around half an hour. Brazil will be without many players who would likely start this evening’s match but are unavailable due to injury.
Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes withdrew from the squad, adding to a list of sidelined players including Neymar, Gabriel Martinelli, Joao Pedro, Eder Militao, Casemiro, Ederson, Alisson, Marquinhos and Joelinton.
2 hours before kickoff: If Kobbie Mainoo makes his debut for England tonight, he will become the 14th player this century to make his England debut before reaching 19 years of age. Never heard of him before? That’s fine but you really should be paying attention to this kid.
He can play as a box-to-box central midfielder thanks to his athleticism, vision and technicality but can also operate as a No. 6 or a No. 8 in the middle of the pitch. Mainoo’s best attribute is perhaps his ability to dribble past players in the midfield before finding teammates to advance the ball and kickstart attacking moves.

But nothing that’s impossible to reverse quickly,” said Brazil’s new head coach Dorival Junior as he painted a positive picture in his first press conference in January, but the truth is: a dark cloud hangs over the Brazil national team.
