This year very well could be the most important season in the history of the Jets.
Aaron Rodgers should be back after his Week 1 Achilles injury, but there’s no guarantee he’ll return to MVP form at the age of 40. The jobs of head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas could be on the line as well. And while the Jets made huge swings in free agency with talented — albeit aging and injury-prone —players, the team enters the 2024 NFL draft with a couple of huge needs.
New York will pick in the top 10 for the third time in four seasons and will look to add immediate contributors to help the Jets break a 13-season playoff drought. Douglas and company will need to get creative with their picks after No. 10, though, as the Jets currently have 62 selections between their first two picks and seven selections overall.

Jets NFL Draft needs
- Offensive tackle: New York added two new starting offensive linemen this offseason in Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses as well as a starting guard in John Simpson, but none are locks to play a full 17-game season. This class is rife with tackle talent at the top of the draft and the Jets could easily pounce on one of the top prospects as teams move up for quarterbacks and wide receivers. The Jets don’t need a Day 1 starter, but a developmental backup who could start in a pinch and take over at any point in the season would go a long way in keeping Rodgers upright.
- Wide receiver: Garrett Wilson is the only reliable wide receiver on the Jets entering 2024. Mike Williams is a great No. 2, but it’s unclear how he’ll look this year coming off a torn ACL. That’s not a good base for an offense, even as good as Wilson has looked in his first two seasons. If not in the first round, the Jets should add a receiver at some point in the first two days of the draft to upgrade Rodgers’ pass-catching group. New York cannot enter the season with Allen Lazard or second-year UDFA Xavier Gipson as their third and fourth options.
- Safety: The Jets’ safety room is shallow. Chuck Clark is coming off an ACL tear, Tony Adams was a first-time starter in 2023 and Ashtyn Davis returned on a one-year deal. None are secondary stars, meaning New York would be wise to add at least one young player to this group. While the Jets could sign a veteran in free agency, the better long-term play would be draft one at some point this year.
