Is Braves manager retiring next year? Insider says there’s ‘decent chance’

The Atlanta Braves have had the same manager since 2016, but that might be changing in the near future.

On Wednesday, New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported that Atlanta’s decorated leader Brian Snitker might be retiring once his contract expires at the end of next season.

“There’s a decent chance that (Snitker) will manage out his contract next year and retire after next year,” Heyman said.

Snitker, 68, has had an illustrious run in Atlanta, winning National League Manager of the Year in 2018, and then following that up with a World Series championship in 2021.

Snitker initially served as the Braves third-base coach from 2007 to 2013 before being named manager of Atlanta’s Triple-A affiliate the Gwinnett Braves.

Snitker was named the Atlanta Braves’ interim manager in May 2016, replacing the fired Fredi González, and then Atlanta removed Snitker’s interim tag and announced in October 2016 that he would be the full-time manager moving forward.

Since then, Snitker has presided over another successful Braves era in the club’s storied history.

At present, Snitker is hoping that this year’s iteration of the Braves, led by Marcell Ozuna, can solidify their positioning in the NL Wild Card and make a serious playoff run.
