NFL insider updates Titans QB Malik Willis’ 53-man roster chances

We already know the Tennessee Titans have two quarterbacks locked into their 53-man roster in starter Will Levis and top backup Mason Rudolph, but it remains to be seen if the Titans will carry a third in fellow signal-caller Malik Willis.

Willis has definitely made strides ahead of his third season, but some of the same old issues we’ve seen in the past few years creeped up in preseason Week 2, which hurt his momentum in regard to making the cut.

However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler provided a positive update for Willis on Saturday, saying the team keeping three quarterbacks is “not off the table.”

“Malik Willis is starting to turn a corner a bit in Tennessee,” Fowler said. “Playing faster. Titans keeping 3 QBs not off the table.”

If Willis doesn’t make the 53-man roster, he’ll be subject to waivers. Ideally, if the Titans aren’t set on keeping him, they can trade him away before that happens in order to recoup at least something for the former third-round pick.

That said, Willis’ value is very low. Best-case scenario is the Titans pull off a pick swap in, say, the sixth round. I wouldn’t expect anything higher than a seventh in return for Willis if a deal doesn’t involve a pick swap.

Willis will have one more audition in preseason Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The Titans will trim their roster down to 53 by Tuesday.
