It’s time for playoff baseball.
The 2024 MLB postseason begins on Tuesday, Oct. 1, with all four matchups of the Wild Card Series kickstarting a five-week stretch of high-stakes baseball. And there are certainly plenty of storylines looming this October.
On the heels of MLB’s first-ever 50-50 season, Shohei Ohtani is primed for his postseason debut, as the Dodgers await their opponent in the NLDS. But the road through the National League won’t be easy, with the battle-tested Phillies touting homefield advantage as they seek their second World Series appearance in the last three years.
In the American League, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto carry the Yankees into the playoffs after a one-year absence. But the field is as wide-open as ever, and New York will likely have to best its postseason nemesis — the stalwart Astros — in order to advance through October.

How to watch the 2024 MLB playoffs: TV channel, live stream
ABC and ESPN will carry live broadcasts of each of the four Wild Card Series.
After that round is complete, Fox and FS1 own the rights to this year’s National League playoffs, while TBS and truTV will broadcast the American League playoffs.
The World Series will be broadcast nationally on Fox.
Viewers hoping to stream the action can do so on Fubo, which offers a free trial, so you can try before you buy.
Sling is another viable streaming option and will carry the AL Division Series and Championship Series.
MLB playoff bracket 2024
The postseason bracket has yet to be finalized entering the final full day of regular-season play, but here’s where things stand going into Sunday. Teams with asterisks are locked into that seed, while the others are still to be determined.
American League
- No. 1 seed: Yankees*
- No. 2 seed: Guardians*
- No. 3 seed: Astros*
- No. 4 seed: Orioles*
- No. 5 seed: Tigers
- No. 6 seed: Royals
A Detroit win OR Kansas City loss on Sunday would give Detroit the No. 5 seed. A Detroit loss AND a Kansas City win gives the Royals the No. 5 seed.
National League
- No. 1 seed: Dodgers*
- No. 2 seed: Phillies*
- No. 3 seed: Brewers*
- No. 4 seed: Padres*
- No. 5 seed: Braves
- No. 6 seed: Mets
Atlanta can clinch the No. 5 seed with a win Sunday or a Diamondbacks loss, and it remains to be seen whether the Braves and Mets will need to play one or two games on Monday with New York sitting percentage points ahead of Arizona.
