After signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town in the mini transfer window earlier this month, Chelsea are all set to get back to business as the transfer window resumes for the rest of the summer today.
The Blues tried their level best to secure Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund in the mini transfer window and even matched the German side’s valuation for the player, but could not agree on the structure of the deal with the club.
However, Enzo Maresca has backed the club to go back into the market and sign a new winger in the ongoing transfer window.
Chances are that Chelsea will return to the negotiation table for Gittens and try to agree a deal for him with Dortmund.
The English player is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea will be looking to take advantage of that.
Maresca all but confirmed Chelsea’s plans to sign a new winger, speaking at a press conference ahead of Chelsea’s Club World Cup opener.

He told Nizaar Kinsella in his pre-match press conference that the departure of Jadon Sancho leaves them without enough wide men to go into the new campaign.
He said: “Jadon [Sancho] is not with us, so for sure that is a position we need to do something. We have Noni, Pedro and Ty only as the proper wingers, so something for sure is going to happen. When the transfer window is open, for sure, we can do something.”
