General Hospital Fans Think Drew Was Brainwashed in Prison

By | July 24, 2025

General Hospital fans have a theory that might explain Drew Cain’s shocking transformation. Once known as a stand-up guy with a solid moral compass, Drew has recently spiraled into morally corrupt behavior, including blackmail, manipulation, and emotional warfare. But fans aren’t buying that this shift came out of nowhere. Instead, many believe Drew may have been brainwashed during his time in prison.

General Hospital fan theory reveals how Drew became evil

Drew’s journey through trauma is no secret. Victor Cassadine previously kidnapped him and held him captive in a foreign facility, where he experimented on and mentally manipulated him. Though he eventually escaped with help from Jason Morgan and others, the psychological damage he endured has left lingering scars.

After his return to Port Charles, Drew tried to rebuild his life, reconnecting with his daughter Scout and even taking the fall for Carly Spencer’s insider trading mess, which landed him back in prison. In Pentonville, other inmates severely beat Drew and sent him to the hospital. Though he later got out early, the darkness that now clouds his moral decisions suggests something deeper than trauma. Many General Hospital fans now suspect that someone brainwashed or at least manipulated Drew during this time.

“Drew isn’t crazy and he’s not Shiloh,” one fan noted on Facebook. “Drew could be brainwashed again. After been kidnapped, his memory completely erased, and brainwashed twice, it’s quite possible sometime in prison, he was manipulated again.”

Now, after the July 23 episode aired, fans are paying close attention. Willow, who once kidnapped Sasha and Michael’s baby, supports Drew’s blackmail plan without hesitation. When Portia revealed Drew’s scheme to frame Michael as an opioid addict, Willow replied that she would do “anything” to get her kids back.

Drew himself now suspects that Willow had something to do with Sasha fleeing Port Charles with her baby. That’s why viewers are floating a new theory, one that brings Drew’s traumatic history back into play. “I think that might be a reason for Drew’s change and possible redemption, if GH decides to go there.”
