Is there a ‘no-bag policy’ for WNBA games? What we know about internet rumor amid sex toy incidents

By | August 6, 2025

An unusual trend has taken the WNBA by storm in recent games.

Two matchups from the Aug. 5 slate of WNBA games — the LibertyWings joust in Barclays Center and the FeverSparks clash at Crypto.com Arena — were marked by strange incidents that saw unknown spectators throw what appeared to be green dildos toward the court.

In the Los Angeles matchup, the apparent sex toy looked to touch Indiana wing Sophie Cunningham before Sparks standout Kelsey Plum swiftly kicked it away. Such incidents have proven increasingly common as of late. The Dream‘s July 29 matchup with the Valkyries also saw what looked like a phallic green object fly onto the floor. The fan who allegedly threw the apparatus was arrested, the league announced on Aug. 2.

A few days later, another onlooker tossed what looked like a sex toy onto the floor during the Sky‘s home duel with Golden State. A fan was arrested in Phoenix the same night, trying to throw another sex toy onto the floor, but it never made it, and he was tackled by security.

The occurrences have been roundly condemned by players and media alike.

“It’s ridiculous, it’s dumb, it’s stupid,” Sparks coach Lynne Roberts said. “It’s also dangerous. Player safety is No. 1, respecting the game, all those things. I think it’s really stupid.”

Yet, it’s unclear if those denunciations are enough to stop the incidents from taking place. Social media has been abuzz with rumors related to the gesture, with some believing the league could take a more forceful approach to stomping the incidents out.

One suggestion among social media sleuths: a no-bag policy.

So, could such a strategy come into place? Here’s what you need to know.

Is there a ‘no-bag policy’ for WNBA games?

At present, there is no such thing as a “no-bag policy” in WNBA games. There’s no reputable reporting that the league is pursuing an anti-bag directive at the time.

The rumor appears to have emerged from the shores of Polymarket Sports, who claimed on Aug. 6 that the league is banning bags for Golden State’s contest against the Aces.

Polymarket is a cryptocurrency-based prediction/betting market. It has taken advantage of the recent upturn in dildo incidents at WNBA games, offering bettors the opportunity to place wagers on the likelihood that dildos will take over the court during games. It’s unclear why Polymarket is so committed to making the increase in sex toys thrown onto the floor part of its revenue stream. Alas, their tweets, which have garnered more than three million views between them, have certainly left their mark.

There’s no one-size-fit-all approach to bag policies across the league. Each arena has different regulations. Some implement a clear bag policy, while others limit bags by sizes. Although the upswing in green sex toys dwindling onto the court is frustrating, it hasn’t yet led to a rewriting of each colosseum’s rulebook.

The Valkyries’ clash with Las Vegas will see fans receive a clear backpack, but that’s a result of a promotion, not a newly minted edict crafted by the league.
