The Chi concluded its seventh season with the release of Episode 12, “Rebirth,” which premiered on Friday, August 1, on Paramount+ and on Sunday, August 3, on Showtime. There won’t be any additional episodes coming up in the following weeks. However, fans can rest assured that The Chi will return with Season 8.
Back in May, Deadline reported that Paramount+ with Showtime has renewed The Chi for another season. Season 7 had amassed over two million views within a week of its debut. Thus, it became the most-streamed season premiere of the show. Thanks to the overwhelming success The Chi has been enjoying over the years, the show has earned another renewal.
Chris McCarthy, the co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, issued an official statement announcing The Chi’s return. “Following record-breaking viewership, we’re thrilled to announce The Chi has been renewed for Season 8, joining the ranks of Showtime’s most iconic series like Homeland and Dexter,” he stated.
McCarthy concluded, saying, “Thanks to Lena Waithe and her incredible team, our talented cast and crew, and devoted fans — the South Side story continues!”
The Chi is a television drama series that centers on a neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago, and the lives of different folks living there. The show stars Jacob Latimore, Yolonda Ross, Michael Epps, Shamon Brown Jr., Alex R. Hibbert, and Birgundi Baker, among others.
