The Seattle Mariners have never had a player quite like Julio Rodriguez.
On Saturday, he wrote his name in a club that previously had no members in Mariners history.
The club: 30-30 times two.
Rodriguez reached the 30-30 club for the second time, and that’s never been done before by a Seattle player.
He already had 32 home runs, and he swiped a bag to get to 30 stolen bases.
In 2023, Rodriguez had 32 home runs and 37 stolen bases.
Mariners PR shared this Rodriguez tidbit, and they added a second piece of information, too: Rodriguez is only the second player in MLB history to have achieved multiple 30-30 seasons by age-24 or younger. Royals superstar Bobby Witt Jr. is the other.
Seattle fans can sometimes get frustrated with Rodriguez for baserunning blunders or striking out.
But he remains a rare talent and one of the best centerfielders in baseball.
And to be this good this early in his career, there’s still legitimate growth and upside to be tapped into here.
Don’t take Rodriguez for granted in the Pacific Northwest. He’s put together another special season as part of a special team, and the Mariners will try to make it even more special.
