Nearly one year ago, the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Jayden Daniels, made a statement in his first-ever matchup against the No. 1 selection, Caleb Williams.

When the two quarterbacks went head-to-head as rookies on Oct. 27, 2024, the Washington Commanders were trending toward a loss, trailing 15-12 in the final moments of a matchup against the Chicago Bears — until Daniels unleashed a magical play that now lives in NFL history. With his 52-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass to Noah Brown, the Commanders beat the Bears, one highlight of Daniels’ debut season that saw him win Offensive Rookie of the Year and take Washington to the NFC Championship Game.

On Monday night, however, Williams will have an opportunity for some get-back. The Bears (2-2) will pay a visit to the Commanders (3-2) on “Monday Night Football,” with the two young quarterbacks once again the centerpieces of the matchup. 

Daniels, who has already missed two games due to injury but returned in Week 5, seemingly hasn’t full-gear in 2025 despite four touchdown passes, no interceptions and 124 rushing yards in three games. As Washington seeks to build off last year’s playoff run, Daniels’ health gave the team an early-season challenge — star receiver Terry McLaurin, expected to miss Monday’s game, has also struggled to stay healthy. 

Still, with Deebo Samuel and emerging rookie running back Jacory Crosky-Merritt, the Commanders will look to make it two straight wins against the Bears. As for Chicago, it has put a 0-2 start in the rearview mirror by taking down the Cowboys and Raiders prior to a Week 5 bye. Williams has looked effective under new head coach Ben Johnson, throwing for 927 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions thus far.

Two likely NFC playoff contenders led by second-year quarterbacks will meet Monday in the Bears’ and Commanders’ first matchup since the “Hail Maryland” play. Which quarterback will come out on top this time around?

FINAL: Bears 25, Commanders 24

11:19 p.m.: FIELD GOAL! Moody wins the game on his fourth field goal of the night.

11:18 p.m.: Chicago will attempt a field goal by new kicker Jake Moody to win the game with around three seconds left.

11:16 p.m.: Another huge run by D’Andre Swift has the Bears now at the 18-yard line. Swift is up to 175 total yards.

11:13 p.m.: The Bears are now at the 31-yard line after a 10-yard run by Swift.

11:11 p.m.: Williams complete to Colston Loveland for a first down, extending the drive. Chicago is close to field-goal range.

11:08 p.m.: Before the two-minute warning, Chicago handed the ball off twice and now face a 3rd-and-5 at around midfield.

11:06 p.m.: FUMBLE! Daniels botches a hanndoff on 3rd-and-1 with the Bears recovering. A huge turning point with three minutes left in this game.

11:02 p.m.: On third-and-long, McNichols takes a short Daniels pass 15 yards to get the first down and extend the drive.

11:00 p.m.: The Bears offense can’t get anything going, as Williams’ pass to Zaccheus is short of the first down and leads to a punt.

10:59 p.m.: Needing over 90 yards for the touchdown, the Bears are called for a penalty, then stuffed on a first down run.

10:54 p.m.: The penalty doesn’t come back to haunt the Bears as they are able to hold the Commanders there and force a punt.

10:51 p.m.: Chicago’s defense commits a roughing-the-passer penalty on Daniels on 3rd-and-5, a killer that extends the drive.

10:45 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! On 3rd-and-4, Swift takes a short pass 55 yards for the touchdown, matching Washington’s previous score. The Bears are unable to convert the two-point conversion.

10:38 p.m.:  TOUCHDOWN! It’s Daniels to Ertz as the Commanders now have control of this game.

10:36 p.m.: After chipping away on a few plays, Washington executed a big play from Daniel to Jaylin Lane, getting into a first-and-goal situation.

10:32 p.m.: BLOCKED FIELD GOAL! Washington blocks Jake Moody’s attempt toe keep the one-point lead intact.

End of third quarter: Commanders 17, Bears 16

10:29 p.m.: Williams bobbles a snap on 3rd-and-1, leading to a sack that will likely stall the drive.

10:27 p.m.: A big Swift carry gets the Bears 14 yards as they look to re-take the lead. The Kyle Monangai takes a screen pass all the way to the Commanders’ 34-yard line.

10:20 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! Luke McCaffrey gets wide open down the field, and Daniels gets it to him for a 33-yard score. Washington has its first lead of the game.

10:18 p.m.: Chicago forces the Commanders into a 4th-and-2, but Daniels finds Jeremy McNichols to convert the first down for 13 yards.

10:16 p.m.: Two runs by Croskey-Merritt gives Washington a first down before Daniels scrambles for another 18 yards.

10:09 p.m.: FIELD GOAL! Moody makes his third field goal of the night, extending the lead back up to six.

10:08 p.m.: A TD from Williams to Odunze is taken off the board due to an illegal formation penalty.

10:06 p.m.: Now Luther Burden makes a big play for around 37 yards, as the Bears are in the red zone.

10:05 p.m.: Williams and Odunze connect on a big play, getting Chicago to around midfield.

10:04  p.m.: Washington commits an illegal contact penalty that jumpstarts the Bears offense after a slow start to the drive.

9:59 p.m.: FIELD GOAL! Gay cuts the deficit to three by drilling the field goal

9:58 p.m.: Daniels gets called for intentional grounding, which essentially halts the drive and leads to a field-goal attempts.

9:55 p.m.: Daniels avoids a sack and scrambles for 15 yards, turning a massive loss into a massive gain.

9:54 p.m.: It took just two plays for Washington to get past midfield, the latter due to a Croskey-Merritt run.

9:52 p.m.: We are back for the second half, with the Commanders getting the ball looking to take the lead.
