JUMP TO:

Arch Manning had the best game of his college career last time out against Arkansas, throwing for a career high 389 yards and six total touchdowns. Manning became the first quarterback in Texas history to have a passing, rushing and receiving touchdown in the same game, adding onto his impressive second half.

Now on Black Friday, Manning has one of his toughest tests yet when Texas welcomes in the No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies to Austin. Mike Elko’s squad is one of three undefeated teams in America, sitting at 11-0 heading into the final week of the season.

The Texas-Texas A&M rivalry resumed last season — in November 2024 — and the first score of the new era was provided by none other than Manning. Head coach Steve Sarkisian brought Manning into the game on a crucial 4th & 2 play from the 15-yard line late in the first quarter in College Station. Manning, taking the snap in a unique package, kept the ball on a read option, exploding around the left side for a 15-yard rushing touchdown to give the Longhorns a 7-0 lead, and they went on to win the game 17-7.

This time around, there are massive postseason implications. Texas A&M is currently ranked No. 3 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings and a win would clinch a spot in the SEC Championship game. The Longhorns stand at 8-3 overall, with a 5-2 record in the SEC. A win would be a huge statement that even with three losses, Texas belongs in the 12-team Playoff, especially with Manning’s elevated play.

With a win, Manning and Texas would become the first team since 2019 LSU — who went 15-0 en route to the national championship — to have three AP top-10 wins in the same season. While the Longhorns might not have the same fate, a win can add steam to Texas’ postseason aspirations, both for this season and beyond.

8:54 p.m.: Texas can’t move the ball at all, actually going backwards because of a holding penalty. The Longhorns punt again.

Manning has not gotten things going, partially because of his own errors and partially because of the protection he is getting. His completion percentage is under 50% as it remains 3-3.

8:52 p.m.: Texas A&M responds with a field goal.

Both teams are still looking for pay dirt.

Manning, Texas draw first blood

8:25 p.m.: Texas A&M puts up a 10-play drive that takes 4:35 off the clock, but it ends in a missed field goal.

Manning and the Longhorns are back on the field with the game still scoreless.

8:04 p.m.: The teams are exchanging stops right now, with Mosley V’s first down being the only chain-mover.

A&M punts back, and Texas takes over again with 8:12 remaining in the first.

7:58 p.m.: Once again faced with a 3rd & 8, Manning tries targeting Ryan Wingo deep downfield but overthrows him.

Texas punts for the second straight time to open the game.

Mosley V, who has come onto the scene late in the season, caught the ball on a curl route,

7:44 p.m.: Texas A&M has kicked off, and we are underway in Austin.

Manning and the Texas offense, coming off a 52-point performance, have the ball first.

7:15 p.m.: Kickoff is less than 30 minutes away from this highly-anticipated clash.

With a win, A&M makes the SEC championship. For Texas, though playoff chances are slim, a win would push them closer to the border.

7:04 p.m.: A season ago, Manning scored the first touchdown of the game in Texas’ 17-7 win against Texas A&M.

Manning played a limited number of snaps in that game. This time, he will have a bigger role.

This is the first time the Aggies are in Austin since 2010.
