Could the NFL’s best regular-season matchup of the year be on the way Thursday night?

Week 16 will begin with the Seattle Seahawks hosting the Los Angeles Rams, with the two teams not only sitting atop the NFC West with identical 11–3 records, but also cementing their status as threats to make a run to Super Bowl LX. The last time the Rams met the Seahawks, they held on for a 21–19 victory in November. This matchup, however, is set to carry far more significant consequences.

The winner will have the upper hand to win the NFC West and potentially the NFC’s No. 1 seed, with Seattle especially needing a victory to tie the season series and improve its tiebreaker outlook. A potential top wild-card spot won’t be a bad consolation prize for the loser on “Thursday Night Football,” but the 10–4 San Francisco 49ers are also looming in both races.

No matter the result, the Rams and Seahawks represent two of the most dynamic and talented teams in the league this season. Defensively, Seattle boasts one of the NFL’s most disruptive units, paired with an elite Sam Darnold–Jaxon Smith-Njigba connection on offense. As for the Rams, Matthew Stafford may be on his way to his first MVP award, with L.A. ranking second in the NFL at 363.6 yards per game.

With playoff seeding on the line, two of the NFL’s most balanced squads meet Thursday night. Which team will position itself atop the NFC West heading into Week 17?

Rams vs. Seahawks live updates, highlights from ‘Thursday Night Football’

All times ET.

End of half — Rams 13, Seahawks 7

9:35 p.m. — After the turnover, Stafford threw a deep ball, but it fell incomplete. On second down, Williams ran the ball up the middle for five yards. Williams ran up the middle for no gain and it ended the first half.

Seattle gets the ball coming out of halftime.

9:31 p.m. — Charbonnet started Seattle’s next drive with a two-yard run. Darnold got blitzed and was sacked for a loss of eight. On third and long, Walker got the carry and the crowd started to boo. The running back then broke tackles and picked up 17 yards and the first down leading into the two-minute warning.

Walker picked up nine on his next two carries and Darnold snuck the ball up the middle for a gain of two and a fresh set of downs. Charbonnet picked up one yard, and the Rams called their first timeout of the half. Darnold scrambled for a few years, but the Rams were called for holding.

Darnold hit Kupp across the middle, but the veteran wide receiver got popped and fumbled the ball. It bounced all the way to the endzone, and the Rams recovered it on the one-yard line, but it was called a touchback.

TOUCHDOWN — Rams 13, Seahawks 7

9:17 p.m. — Los Angeles continues to work the ground game. Corum started the drive with three consecutive runs for a total of 15 yards. Williams had a five-yard reception and a four-yard run to move the chains. Corum then picked up 12 yards on his next two runs.

After getting near the goal line, Stafford found Ferguson for the three-yard touchdown.

9:07 p.m. — After a false start, Darnold scrambled for a gain of one and then was sacked to bring up third and long. On third and 14, Walker picked up seven, and Seattle punted.

FIELD GOAL — Seahawks 7, Rams 6

9:00 p.m. — The Rams’ next drive starts fast as Stafford finds Nacua for a gain of 54.

After Williams picked up two on the ground, the first quarter ended. After the break, Stafford overthrew Nacua down the sideline for a wide-open touchdown. Later, in the redzone, the Rams faced third and 1 from the five-yard line.

Stafford had an incomplete pass. The Rams elected to go for it on fourth down for the fifth time in the game so far. Los Angeles lined up but took the delay-of-game penalty and ultimately elected to go for the field goal. Mevis connected from 28 yards.

8:49 p.m. — While the Rams have gone for it on fourth down four times in the game already, the Seahawks did not feel like risking it. Seattle punted on fourth and two from their own 43-yard line after an eight-yard run and two incompletions.

FIELD GOAL — Seahawks 7, Rams 3

8:45 p.m. — Nacua got his first reception of the night and picked up nine. Stafford connected with tight end Davis Allen for a huge 27-yard gain.

Backup running back Blake Corum picked up five yards on his second carry of the night. Stafford had an incompletion on second and third down. On fourth and five, head coach Sean McVay elected to go for it again.

While on the 30-yard line, Stafford connected with Nacua, but the first flag of the game came out. Luckily for Los Angeles, it was on the defense, so Nacua’s eight-yard gain stood.

After getting to the goal line, Corum got stuffed on two runs. On third down, Stafford hit Nacua for a gain of five, but he was short of the endzone. The Rams went for it on fourth down, and looked like they scored, but there was a penalty on the offense. Los Angeles lined up for the 23-yard kick and Harrison Mevis nailed it.

TOUCHDOWN — Seahawks 7, Rams 0

8:30 p.m. — The Seahawks started their first drive with a play-action pass, and Sam Darnold hit tight end AJ Barner for a gain of eight. After a two-yard run by Kenneth Walker, the running back took a screen pass 46 yards to get near the goal-line. Darnold hit Cooper Kupp for a gain of one before Zach Charbonnet punched in the four-yard score to put Seattle up early.

8:23 p.m. — With the wind whipping, the Rams elected to keep the ball on the ground with Kyren Williams. He picked up nine and then Matthew Stafford had an incomplete pass on third down. On fourth and one, Williams picked up three for the first down.

Williams continued to get plenty of work on the first down, with runs of seven and four for another first down. Stafford was pressured and scrambled for four while Williams picked up two. Terrance Ferguson brought in a pass for three yards, and the Rams once again went for it. Williams ran to the right, and looked short. After a virtual measurement, he was one foot, three inches short for a turnover on downs.

8:15 p.m. — The Seahawks won the toss and are deferring to the second half. The Rams start with the ball.

Pre-Game

8:00 p.m. — Seahawks legend Marshawn Lynch is on hand for the important divisional game between the Seahawks and the Rams.

7:45 p.m. — The Rams take the field for early warm-ups.

7:30 p.m. — We are 45 minutes away from kickoff. The Rams will be without star wide receiver Davante Adams who suffered a hamstring injury in Los Angeles’ Week 15 win over the Detroit Lions. Adams has been a redzone machine this year and leads the NFL with 14 receiving touchdowns.

7:15 p.m. — One thing to watch at the start of the Rams’ first possession is whether or not star wide receiver Puka Nacua is on the field. He got into some off-the-field trouble for an appearance on a live stream. Nacua did a dance that was considered anti-semitic, with the NFL, Rams and Nacua himself releasing statements/apologies about the event.

7 p.m. — Inactives have been released for the game.

Los Angeles

Seattle

6:45 p.m. — “Thursday Night Football” will be aired on Amazon Prime Video. Two members of the pre-show, Andrew Whitworth and Richard Sherman, actually spent part of their careers with the featured teams. Whitworth was with the Rams from 2017 to 2021, while Sherman was with the Seahawks from 2011 to 2017.

Ahead of the game, the duo had a jersey swap.

6:30 p.m. — The Rams will be wearing blue jerseys and blue pants with yellow accents. Los Angeles will wear a combination blue and yellow helmet.

6:15 p.m. — The Seahawks are debuting a new uniform combo for the rivalry game. They will be wearing white jerseys and pants that have green accents. Seattle will also be wearing teal helmets with their classic logo.

6 p.m. — We are a little over two hours to kickoff. One thing to watch will be the weather for this game. It has been a rainy day in Seattle, and there is at least a 50% chance of rain throughout the game, per AccuWeather. This matchup features high-profile wide receivers Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Puka Nacua, but the weather could force more of a run-heavy offensive game.
