Insider drops brutal truth on Rashee Rice’s future with Chiefs

By | May 26, 2026

The Kansas City Chiefs‘ offseason has been largely positive… except for the Rashee Rice news.

With reports of another off-field incident, it is becoming clear that the Chiefs will find it hard to count on Rice to be the player they need him to be. Let alone give him a contract extension.

It has been another offseason for Rice in which everything other than his football has been talked about, and that’s never good.

For Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, he’s dropped a brutal truth on Rice as yet another off-field incident takes center stage for the receiver.

“The Chiefs can’t trust Rashee Rice,” Breer wrote. “The drug test Rice failed wasn’t a drug test. It was an intelligence test. Rice knew the tests were coming. He knew what was on the line. Now he must deal with the fallout. He knew he had to walk the straight and narrow, yet somehow, here we are again. It’s a shame, too, because internally, the Chiefs view Rice as capable of being a top-five or top-10 receiver.

“If he gets there, and he cleans up his act off the field, we’re probably talking about the Chiefs paying Rice somewhere around $30 million per year.

“They just can’t count on Rice anymore.”

Rice has to get things in order

He likely knows that, and we have seen far too many good players be lost from the game because of decisions made off the field.

You could make the case that Rice has the potential to be one of the better receivers in the NFL and secure generational wealth as a result, but right now, neither looks likely to happen.

Of course, there is time for Rashee to steady the ship, but these stormy seas won’t be stopping anytime soon, and the one thing we know is that NFL teams only wait for so long.

And while Rice has the talent to make the Chiefs wait a little longer than they normally would, they won’t wait forever for him to get himself right.
