Victor Wembanyama is often the big man who gets all the spotlight when it comes to the San Antonio Spurs. Despite his standout moments throughout the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, his backup, Luke Kornet, might have had the best moment of the series.

Around the 6:35 mark of the fourth quarter, the Thunder got a steal. They went on transition, eventually ending up in Isaiah Hartenstein’s hands, who was about to finish at the rim. That would have happened had Kornet not been there to block the shot.

Luke Kornet has fun recalling his iconic Game 7 block

After the game, there were a lot of moments that people remembered from Game 7. This includes Wembanyama’s dunk over Chet Holmgren or Julian Champagnie’s three-point barrage throughout the game.

However, Kornet’s block is still fresh in a lot of people’s minds because it was such an impressive feat. Most people don’t see Kornet as an athletic player, but he was superb on that play, showcasing why he is the best possible backup for Wemby.

The Frenchman himself was in awe of Kornet’s winning play. He was celebrating on the bench, and he made sure to celebrate it after the game in his post-game presser.

Outside of the praise, Kornet himself had a lot of fun with his highlight moment. After the game, in a locker room interview, he made a joke that has gone viral.

“Someone from the bench yelled, ‘Who is it? LeBron James?’ We’ll see which one has more staying power in the record books of history,” Kornet said after the game in his post-game interview

Moving forward, this will be a moment that both Kornet and Spurs fans will always remember. It was proof that he is ready to keep helping the Spurs to win a championship, and now, they are four wins away from doing so.
