Cowboys’ Brian Schottenheimer drops bold Dak Prescott & George Pickens chemistry assessment

By | July 6, 2026

The contract drama inside the Dallas Cowboys has finally subsided. George Pickens made the call to return to training camp and work alongside Dak Prescott for a bit instead of wasting away his offseason by holding out. Obviously, there were concerns about the wide receiver possibly being out of rhythm for a bit. However, Brian Schottenheimer clarified that none of those woes surfaced. He even proclaimed that their quarterback and weapon combination is set to be lethal for the 2026 NFL season.

Cowboys see jump in chemistry between Prescott and Pickens before 2026 NFL season

George Pickens was a revelation for the Cowboys during their 2025 run. He popped off by getting 93 receptions, 1,429 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns. A bit of concern arose when the Cowboys decided to use the franchise tag on him instead of signing him to a new deal, but those are not immediate worries right now. Pickens practiced alongside the Cowboys and Dak Prescott in their minicamp. Another point of worry then surfaced.

Did Prescott or Pickens just have a fluke season? Do they have the chemistry to maintain this type of momentum heading into the 2026 NFL season? Brian Schottenheimer gave the definitive answer, via Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News.

“I was a little bit, not worried, but it was going to be interesting to see how much he remembers, because we made minor adjustments, but he was on it, man. In all the mocks and the walkthroughs that we were doing. He was terrific. He’s not just going to live at the X. He doesn’t like that anyway,” Schottenheimer said. “We want to put him in the slot some; we want to get him isolated, sell him to the front side,” the Cowboys head coach declared.

Clearly, Pickens and Prescott still need to work on their chemistry a bit more during the offseason. They already got the Cowboys receiver to rank third in the NFL in receiving yards in 2025. If Schottenheimer and the Cowboys continue down the path, Pickens and Prescott may singlehandedly win them the NFC East.
