How to Stay Warm in Valheim
Valheim features several different biomes that all offer a number of unique resources and creatures for you to explore and experience. However, one particular region known as the Mountain biome is home to some of the best resources and items that the game has to offer.
From the likes of Wolves, Drakes, Stone Golems, Obsidian, and even Silver Ore, the Mountain biome is a must-visit region if you’re looking to progress your character. But as you have likely learned, the Mountain biome is arguably one of the most challenging areas to survive, especially if you are not prepared to deal with the freezing temperatures that will cause significant damage over time.
So you’re probably wondering, how can you stay warm and avoid the freeze damage while exploring the Mountain biome?
Well, during your first visit to the Mountain biome, you will want to ensure that you have consumed a Frost Resistance Mead, as this will temporarily have you resistant to freeze damage.
Once you have started to mine Silver ore, you will want to switch to a more heat retaining armor. With the right armor choice, you will no longer need to use the Frost Resistance Mead.

How to Stay Warm with the Frost Resistance Mead
Without warm clothing, your next best option for surviving the Mountain biome’s freezing temperatures is by consuming a potion known as Frost Resistance Mead. Upon drinking the Frost Resistance Mead, you will become temporarily invincible to frost damage for a total of 10 minutes.
To craft the Frost Resistance Mead, you will need to craft the potion within a Cauldron and Fermenter. If you’re still relatively new to Valheim, consider checking out our step-by-step guide for understanding the covers everything you need to know about using the Fermenter and Cauldron to brew Mead.Once you have your Fermenter and Cauldron ready, you can craft the Frost Resistance Mead by combining the following materials:
- x10 Honey
- x5 Blueberries
- x10 Raspberries
- x1 Dandelion
For those looking to do away with the Frost Resistance Mead recipe, you’re going to need to obtain some warm clothes.
At the time of writing, Valheim only offers two types of Armor that provide Frost Resistance. The first armor set comes in the form of Wolf Armor which many consider to be the best armor within the game.
Thankfully, you won’t need to equip the entire set of Wolf Armor to activate the warming effect, as wearing the Wolf Armor Chest or Wolf Fur Cape will provide the Frost resistance effect.
To craft Wolf Armor, you will need the following materials:
Alternatively, you can opt to craft a Lox Cape as it will provide the same effect as the Wolf Fur Cape, in which it will protect the wearer from freezing damage that occurs over time when exploring the Mountain biomes. To craft a Lox Cape, you will need the following materials:
Unlike Wolves, Lox’s are an aggressive, woolly-like reptile found within the Plains biome. While they are primarily found on land, they can swim in deep water and potentially destroy your boat.
