NASCAR at Kansas race results: Kyle Busch scores birthday win at Buschy McBusch Race 400

Sunday’s Buschy McBusch Race 400 at Kansas Speedway had an aptly named winner: Kyle Busch.

With the win, Kyle Busch — who led four times for a total of 20 laps in the race — becomes the 10th different winner in 11 races this season. And, if that weren’t serendipitous enough … he won on his 36th birthday, joining Cale Yarborough as the only drivers in NASCAR history to win on their birthday more than once.

Busch’s victory marked the close to an action-packed ending at Kansas. A total of 220 laps went by with no cautions for cause; the only yellows were a competition caution after 25 laps and pauses after Stages 1 and 2 (won by Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson, respectively).

The first caution for cause was for an uncontrolled tire from Tyler Reddick’s pit crew, which NASCAR didn’t call until eight minutes after the fact. Then came a series of crashes in the final 47 laps. It got to the point where Kyle Busch was forced to win in a two-lap shootout, which mercifully took place without issue.

8 p.m.: Official results:

6:21 p.m.: And there it is! Kyle Busch, on his birthday, wins the Buschy McBusch Race 400. He’s the second NASCAR driver to win more than once on his birthday.

6:19 p.m.: Kyle Busch, Truex and Keselowski make up the top three.

6:18 p.m.: Green flag! Here we go!

6:14 p.m.: Actually, we’re heading for a two-lap shootout for the second time in as many races.

6:12 p.m.: Laps are dwindling now. Five remaining under caution.

6:10 p.m.: Kyle Busch, Blaney and Larson make up your top three when we come out of the caution. Meanwhile, Bell’s car is still out on the track and creating sparks.

6:08 p.m.: As noted on the telecast: There were zero cautions for cause in the first 220 laps. We’ve had five since.

6:07 p.m.: Caution 7. Well, that didn’t last long. Bell started the wreck, getting pinned between Chastain and Suarez. He lost control, hitting Stenhouse and then Ryan Preece. Stenhouse’s car is smoking, and his day is almost certainly done.

6:06 p.m.: Kyle Busch takes an early lead with Blaney right on his tail.

6 p.m.: Larson, Kyle Busch, Keselowski, Blaney and Elliott make up the top five; Ross Chastain is in the third row with Elliott. Only 11 laps remaining with the top 12 drivers all on old tires.

5:59 p.m.: Caution 6. Stenhouse and Austin Cindric hit each other after Austin Dillon cuts in front of Cindric.

5:57 p.m.: Larson, Kyle Busch and Blaney are the top three drivers with 18 laps to go.

5:51 p.m.: Caution 5. Hamlin hit the wall again and has some pretty significant damage to the right side of his car, including a blown right-front tire. He’s pitting under caution. This has to be frustrating, considering how close he has been to winning this year … without actually winning.

5:50 p.m.: Larson scores an inside pass on Hamlin to take the lead; it looks like Hamlin hit the wall hard, allowing the former to pass.

5:47 p.m.: Hamlin, Larson and Kyle Busch are your top three drivers with 29 laps remaining in the race.

5:42 p.m.: Another uncontrolled tire penalty, this one for Harvick:

5:39 p.m.: Larson, Hamlin and Kyle Busch maintain the top three spots after pitting under caution. The big winner, however, is Joey Logano, who moved up 11 spots into the fourth position with a two-tire pit stop.

5:36 p.m.: Caution 4. The AMR Safety Team comes out and removes the tire from the grass. This is the first actual caution of the race after the 25-lap competition caution and first two stages.

5:35 p.m.: Now Buescher has pitted, giving Larson the lead; Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Harvick and Blaney make up the remainder of the top five with only 17 drivers on the lead lap. Thirty-nine laps remaining.

5:33 p.m.: Buescher, the leader, has about six more laps in him before he’s forced to pit.

5:32 p.m.: Only 13 cars on the lead lap with 45 laps to go.

5:31 p.m.: Aric Almirola also had an uncontrolled tire and served a pass-through penalty.

5:29 p.m.: Stenhouse is now in the pit, as is Reddick, serving a pass-through penalty for the uncontrolled tire.

5:28 p.m.: There’s a loose tire on the grass! It came from Tyler Reddick’s car, but there’s no caution as of yet.

5:27 p.m.: Chris Buescher, Stenhouse, Larson, Hamlin and Kyle Busch make up the top five after the green-flag pit.

5:26 p.m.: More teams pitting under green, including Kyle Busch, Keselowski, Kurt Busch, Harvick, Hamlin, Larson and more.

5:24 p.m.: Byron pits under green on Lap 206 for four tires, fuel and air pressure and chassis adjustments.

5:14 p.m.: Larson, Hamlin and Kyle Busch are still your top three drivers with 80 laps remaining; Hamlin and Busch traded spots coming out of the caution, but otherwise, no change.

5:04 p.m.: Wallace had a very close call, bumping with Bowman coming around Turn 2. He was drifting for a moment but corrected with no crash. Bowman ends up pitting.

4:56 p.m.: Larson, Kyle Busch and Hamlin maintain the top three spots after pitting. Blaney moved up two spots to fourth.

4:52 p.m.: And Larson is your Stage 2 winner, his fourth stage win of the season. Coming up behind him are Kyle Busch (second); Denny Hamlin (third); Keselowski (fourth); Chase Elliott (fifth); Blaney (sixth); Martin Truex Jr. (seventh); Reddick (eighth); Bell (ninth); and Kevin Harvick (10th).

4:46 p.m.: Suarez is the only driver not to pit with 10 laps remaining in the second stage; Larson retakes the lead with Kyle Busch in second, 7.6 seconds behind.

4:32 p.m.: Meanwhile, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is in the lead with Daniel Suarez in second place, 5.8 seconds behind.

4:32 p.m.: Cody Ware spins out, but it’s on pit road. No stoppage necessary, though he will have to run a penalty lap through pit road.

4:23 p.m.: Bubba Wallace sustains some damage on the wall to his front right fender. Falls to 21st.

4:12 p.m.: And we’re back out of the caution. Kyle Busch quickly retakes a position and is in second place behind Larson.

4:08 p.m.: Larson and Reddick moved up one position each into the top two spots, respectively; Kyle Busch fell two positions to No. 3 overall.

4:01 p.m.: Happy birthday to Kyle Busch, winner of Stage 1. Larson (2), Tyler Reddick (3), Keselowski (4), William Byron (5), Chase Elliott (6), Kevin Harvick (7), Ryan Blaney, (8), Denny Hamlin (9) and Christopher Bell (10) finished in the top 10 of the stage. Keselowski led 64 of 80 laps, including the first 50.

4 p.m.: Now Kyle Busch, who restarted sixth out of the caution, leads. Only three laps remaining in the stage.

3:58 p.m.: Keselowski had to bail out of the lead spot, giving Larson the lead. He has five laps to maintain it to win the stage (he started in the 32nd position).

3:53 p.m.: Kyle Larson edged Keselowski just long enough to get the point for leading Lap 5. Keselowski quickly retook the lead and maintains it with 14 laps left in the stage.

3:47 p.m.: Uh-oh. Alex Bowman apparently having issues with his alternator.

3:39 p.m.: Newman’s back on the track but loses a lap in the process.

3:38 p.m.: Ryan Newman has been penalized for illegal body modification under the competition caution; he not only has to go through pit row but has to get it repaired. Apparently a pit crewman pulled on the right-side skirt.

3:35 p.m.: Byron’s hanging a lot tighter with Keselowski coming out of the caution. six racers are right behind them, less than a second behind the leader.

3:29 p.m.: The majority of the cars pit under caution. Keselowski, Byron and Bell, the top three racers heading into the caution, exit pit road retaining their positions.

3:27 p.m.: Caution 1. There’s the competition caution. Keselowski led all 25 laps.

3:26 p.m.: Keselowski’s aggressive as the lead racer out there. William Byron, the closest racer, is half a second behind; the next-closest racer, Christopher Bell, is 2.89 seconds behind.

3:19 p.m.: Keselowski has led each of the first 10 laps.

3:13 p.m.: There’s the green flag … and they’re off! Brad Keselowski started right where he left off in Talladega as the lead racer after one lap.

NASCAR start time today

The green flag for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway is scheduled to wave at 3:13 p.m. ET.

Fox and Fox Sports 1 will televise NASCAR races through the June 13 All-Star Race at Texas. FS1 will air Sunday’s race, the 11th of the NASCAR Cup Series 2021 season.
