Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is tied to some of the most beloved film franchises in history. So, when he was cast in the upcoming Indiana Jones film, it seemed both exciting and natural. What’s more exciting is Mikkelsen seems to be pretty ecstatic for the archeologist’s newest adventure.

In an interview with Collider’s Christina Radish, Mikkelsen was asked how he reacted when he was approached for the tentatively titled Indiana Jones 5.

“I’m very, very excited about it… I rewatched Raiders of the Lost Ark the other day, it is so well-done and so charming, and it’s such great storytelling,” says Mikkelsen. “So yes it’s a great honor to be part of that franchise that I grew up with… I’m in a lucky position where they let me read the script before. And yes, it was everything I wished it to be, so that was just great.”

The actor also discussed creating his character for Indiana Jones 5 and how his character is a collaborative effort.

“I do think I’m invited in to create a character, I think that everybody wants that,” says Mikkelsen. “That’s why they pick certain actors that they think can come up with certain things, and it will be a collaboration as it always is.”

Mikkelsen also mentions how the Indiana Jones films include “different character genres” ranging from Peter Lorre-inspired characters (like Ugarte from Casablanca) to Harrison Ford’s “straight man” approach to the titular character.
