A duo of skateboarding games were shown during IGN’s Summer of Gaming stream. OlliOlli World got a new gameplay trailer while SkateBird finally received a release date, which is August 12, 2021. While the two games put skateboarding at the forefront, they couldn’t be more different from one another.
OlliOlli World is a skateboarding action platformer developed by Roll7. Set in the vibrant world of Radlandia, you’ll carve, grind, and huck yourself on the gnarliest terrain as you “discover the mystical skate gods on your quest for Gnarvana.”

While the trailer doesn’t show these skate gods, we do get a good look at how the game will play. It seems to be taking the same approach as the previous entries, which featured its own take on “flick-it” style controls, albeit with a new coat of paint and some new features. You’ll be able to customize your skater’s looks, tricks, and style, as well as explore several levels, many of which have multiple paths.
While OlliOlli World has the precise Skate-like gameplay style of its predecessors, SkateBird appears to go in a different direction. Developed by Glass Bottom Games, SkateBird allows you to take control of a cute, tiny bird and get some sick air off obstacles you’d find in a bedroom or a desk, like a pizza box, a book, or a straw. It certainly has a goofier vibe, especially with the hilarious costumes some of these birds can wear.
