Wimbledon prize money: How much will the winners make in 2021? Purse, breakdown for field

By | July 10, 2021

For love or money, tennis players will cash in Wimbledon this weekend.

It’s been a long time since tennis players have seen the green of the grass at Wimbledon — and the green of the cash that comes with winning a round or two. With the tournament canceled in 2020 amidst the coronavirus pandemic, there’s a fairly precipitous drop in total prize money this year.

Still, the men’s and women’s winners will take home a nice, hefty check to pad their respective bank accounts when the back-line dust settles on the major event.

Here’s how the cash all breaks down:

What is the Wimbledon purse for 2021?

Wimbledon’s total prize money in 2021 is set at $48,240,317.64 (£35,016,000), a 7.85 percent drop from the last time Wimbledon iteration in 2019.

The event did not take place in 2020 after being canceled amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2019, the total purse for the event sat at $52,313,118 (£38 million).

How much money does the Wimbledon winner get?

This year, the men’s and women’s singles champions will earn approximately just under $2.4 million ($2,399,520). That number is a 27.6 percent drop from the total winner prize money in 2019, when winners earned $2,954,247 total.

Doubles winners take home $677,607, with mixed doubles winners coming in at $141,117.
