Chase Young needed just a few plays to notch the first quarterback hit of his preseason career.
The 2020 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year wasted little time getting into the backfield in his preseason debut against the Patriots on Thursday night. After beating tackle Isaiah Wynn, he put a punishing hit on Cam Newton on New England’s third offensive snap of the game.
A look at Young’s big play:
At first glance, it looked as if Young had made a strip sack and forced a fumble. The officials ruled the play an incomplete pass, so Young was credited with a QB hit and pressure instead.

Nonetheless, Young’s play captured the attention of NFL fans and media personalities on Twitter. They were in awe of how quickly he made an impact for Washington and noted that the offensive lineman he beat, Wynn, is no slouch.
Isaiah Wynn is very good and Chase Young just inhaled him like a french fry.
