Plans for the John Cena-led HBO Max series Peacemaker have been revealed. The Suicide Squad spinoff will feature a staggered release format. This means binge viewers won’t be able to sit down and watch the entire season in one sitting right off the bat.
PW Insider is reporting that the new DC series will debut on January 13, 2022. The first three episodes of the series will be released at that time. From then on, there will be one new episode released per week.
An eight-episode season of Peacemaker was ordered by HBO Max in September of 2020. James Gunn is returning to write and direct the series. The director is most widely known in the superhero fandom for his work on Guardians of the Galaxy for Marvel.
John Cena has ascended to the rarified air of pro wrestler turned mainstream star. His acclaimed performance in The Suicide Squad has positioned him as a major Hollywood actor. Others to have made the leap include Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dave Bautista.
The Peacemaker character debuted for DC in the mid-1980s after being acquired from Charlton Comics. Cena’s charismatic performance as Peacemaker was the first ever live action portrayal of the superhero.
John Cena continues to be a fan favorite who is well-liked in both wrestling and Hollywood circles. The Champ made another run in WWE over the summer to help promote The Suicide Squad. Fans are excited to see the return of Cena as Peacemaker early next year.
