Regular Feature Unearths Early Comics and Animatics that Helped Pave the Way to TV, Streaming and Film Stardom from Some of Today’s Biggest and Rising Animation Stars
King Features Syndicate, home to some of the world’s most popular entertainment characters, today announced a new comics collection in development, The Animator’s Attic. The Animator’s Attic celebrates the shared history of comics and animation by inviting animators to share a sample of the comics and cartoons they created before becoming well-known animators.
King Features is attending the Annecy International Animation Film Festival this week, where breakout animated series The Cuphead Show!, co-produced by King Features and Netflix Animation, was named a 2022 Official Selection. The Cuphead Show! premiered in February to rave reviews from critics and fans alike with Season 2 planned for release this summer. While at Annecy, the King Features team will be meeting with animators throughout the festival as they seek additional participants for The Animator’s Attic.
“So many great animators got their start drawing comics and cartoons before moving into the field of animation and most of them have never shared that work publicly before,” said C.J. Kettler, President of King Features. “With The Animator’s Attic, we’re excited to honor the shared history of comics and animation by inviting animators to dust off their comics portfolios and offering a place to showcase their early work.”
The Animator’s Attic is expected to launch later this year on ComicsKingdom.com, with new hidden gems being unveiled on a regular basis. The Animator’s Attic is the latest comic feature announced from King Features, which in the past year introduced new comics including Funny Online Animals, Legend of Bill, and Legalization Nation.
