While things seemed grim for the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise when Vicarious Visions merged with Blizzard, it seems there may still be hope for the series. American rock band CKY (an abbreviation for Camp Kill Yourself) may have revealed a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 Remaster is in the works.
In an episode of the Behind Closed Doors podcast, CKY drummer Jess Margera was discussing how bands can earn money besides album sales. “Now touring is your main income, and you really have to try and get licensing deals, try and get in where you can on video games or whatever, because that’s another way to make some money,” says Margera.

The interviewer then asks if they were in one of the Tony Hawk games. Of course, the answer is yes as CKY’s “96 Quite Bitter Beings” was featured in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3, which released in 2001. However, it is Margera’s reply to the question that starts to raise some questions.
“Yeah, and I believe we’re doing the new one coming out too,” says Margera.
While one might think that Margera may have mistaken “the new one coming out” with last year’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, that doesn’t seem to be the case. In fact, he does mention the critically acclaimed remaster as its own product when the interviewer remarks about how it must have been huge news for the band.
“Yeah, my son just got a PS5 and he got the remaster of 1 and 2,” says Margera. “It’s so cool because the classic Tony Hawks are just so good and laid out great, but obviously the system is old and the graphics aren’t so great, so they basically just vamped up with the same premise and the graphics are amazing,” adds Margera about the remaster.

Considering the past remake featured many songs from the original soundtracks of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2, it looks like “96 Quite Bitter Beings” could be licensed for a potential Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 remaster. Of course, it could also be a new title altogether, but CKY would seem like an odd licensing choice in 2021 given the band has only released one album since 2010.
While CKY only appeared in one Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game, they are certainly evocative of the skate scene during that time. Named after the band, the CKY video series featured the likes of Bam Margera and Brandon DiCamillo performing wild stunts along with skate footage. It is essentially the precursor to MTV’s Jackass.
